Carb Replacement Shopping List

As most of you know, I'm planning on replacing my Carter AFB 4-barrel carb with a stock Aisin carb that's currently being rebuilt by JimC. He just told me he expects to be done with it within a week, so now I need to make sure I've got all the other parts I need to do the swap back to stock. Here's a pic of my current set-up; please excuse the lines I drew on it - it's the only pic I could find.

Here's what I'm thinking so far. Let me know what I'm forgetting.

Stock Carb - coming from JimC
Stock Intake Manifold - Got it
Intake Manifold gasket - need to order
Stock Throttle Linkage - I'm pretty sure I have all of it
Choke Cable - planning to buy used from cruiserparts.net
Fuel Lines (feed and return)
Air Cleaner - still need to find used
Carb base gasket

I think that's about it. My questions are

- Intake gasket - I want to keep the header that's on there. will a regular gasket work?

- Fuel lines - Currently, my fuel return line is a soft line that's cut off and plugged down near the fuel pump, and my fuel hard line is cut off before the carb to allow that fuel filter, then a soft line into the carb. I'm pretty sure the Aisin carb needs the hard lines with fittings going into it. Should I use the whole hard lines and put the filter before the pump like the stock configuration? Just get a short bit of line and a fitting and use the current setup? Can I run soft lines all over for feed and return, and just use short bits of hard line at the carb and pump?

Sorry for all the rambling. Thanks for any help.

I'll bring it to the happy hour...unless you need it sooner than that.

No, probably not. I still need to get all that other stuff. Thanks, again, man. That's awesome.

Felix, is something wrong with your header? Why're you going back to stock exhaust?

On the fuel tubing, not sure what size you need to resurrect original, or what the end style is - I think it might be a push connect style, but I have 71475 on http://www.mastercool.com/m54.html. If I have the correct dies and size (we need to check in mm) I can make them up. Plus, you may be able to purchase from the dealer the missing lines. You *could* probably use rubber, but stock uses steel, so there must be a good reason why.

Oh, just remembered. You're gonna need a carb base gasket. Not sure what year you need, but check here. http://www.sor.com/sor/cat042.tam?xa...x=cat042%2Etam

Felix,

I think I have a stock air cleaner from a '78 that should fit. It's rusty but cheap!

Dan, thanks for the info. There's a guy somewhere here on MUD that was selling some fuel lines he was bending up. I might check with him once I have the new carb in hand. Not being a stickler for the details, I would much rather just run soft lines all over. Unless that's bad for some reason.

Oh, and I'm not getting rid of the header, just the carb and intake manifold. I'll need to remove the header to get to the gasket, but I'm just going to put it right back on.

Thanks, I'll add that to the list

As long as it works! We pulled one off the parts truck that John, Seb, and I had, but it was all shot to hell. I'll shoot you a pm on the cleaner.
