Tech Day requests

Hi all. After talking about this at the meeting last night, it seems there is interest in having a thread dedicated to the submission of tech day requests.

I'd like to kick things off by submitting a request for a tech day involving regular upkeep. Things to be covered might include the adjusting of valve timing, valve clearance, drum brake adjustment, plug gapping, compression/vac tests, etc. Just the basic things that should be looked after to keep your beast in good working order. I know a lot of you guys know how to do your own upkeep but I think there are a few (myself included) who are just getting their feet wet w/this and would like to have a rundown by an expert.

This tech day might be better suited for when it's warmer out so we can wait until Spring to get a date down.

It was great meeting a few new (to me) faces at the meeting last night. Hope to see you guys again soon.

Craig

Thanks, Craig. I'm making this a Sticky.

If anyone else has an idea that you think would make a great Tech Day, please post it up here. They can be general suggestions like Breckbone's up above, or they can be specific to an urgent need you have.

OK, since I'm hoggin' the tech day theme lately.....

I think a cutting and welding day would be stellar.

I've been waiting for a body work day but I also realize its sort of a tough one so no sweat.

I third the request for a regular maintainance day in spring. It'll help those that know what they are doing but like to procrastinate as well. I could see it being a good annual spring event for the club and of course there would be food and tasty beverages involved as well!

Ryan has offered to show the basics of cutting and welding to a small group of guys interested. He can only accommodate a few since his time is crunched and space is limited. I'm planning on calling him at some point to set up a time in May to visit his shop.

Anyone else interested in going with me?

Ryan is who we've been working with to set up a club tech day, but the timing has just never worked out.

I guess he just figures that this way, those that really want to learn it can come watch him at work. I think it would be pretty cool to do it that way.

Just a thought, but I may see if I can pay him to replace my rocker panels. We can watch him cut the old ones off and weld the new ones in. Then, I can do all the finishing myself.

I'll be swamped up until GSMTR but after that I should have some time. I can do a welding/cutting day, bodyshop day or both. I just have to check with the shop owners to see how many people theyr'e cool with me having there. I just sublet space in a larger shop.

Dual Battery Set up

I am hoping to do this near the end of the summer. I know seems like a long way off but it will be here a gone before you know it.

I'd like to add an inverter as well. I want enough juice to run a winch, lights, fright etc. Like to have a couple 12v outlets in the rear.

This would be in my FZJ80.

Cool Ryan. that would be great. i can put together some literature for welding tips for people and help out on that one.

I have talked to John S. about doing a tune up and he said he might be interested. I have started doing the tune up on my truck and can't figure out a damn vacuum leak (low vacuum) problem.

I also want to video the tech days and make podcasts. anyone interested in helping out with that?

A tune-up tech day would be grand.
