Yeah,

I starting to get a little discouraged about the truck. I'm breaking the bank, and I haven't even been wheeling in it yet. Grrrr......can't wait for Paragon....

Hang in there Norm. It will get better. What happened specifically?

If it makes you feel better, my 80 came home on a rollback two weeks ago with the temperature gauge pegged, no coolant in it, and oil everywhere! I've been kinda avoiding it for two weeks, but I'm going to tear into it this weekend. Looks like the root cause was a bad water pump seal that lead to a drastic loss in coolant. I don't know if the HG survived, but I'm going to pull the head anyway and freshen it up. Heck - it might be warped or cracked. What gets me is the oil all over the bottom of the truck. I talked to Cruiserdan who thought I might have pushed out an oil galley plug behind the timing cover when it got hot. So, I'm going to pull the front of the motor off too. Who wants to hold the wrench when I hit the starter to get the 305ft-lb nut off the pulley?

Dan - Good to see you braved the salt and got some wheeling in. I'm sure you dipped it in distilled water when you got home to clean it off. The new lift looks good.

Rob - I think I need to create a "sticky" page at the top of the forum with club info on it. Stuff like our contact info, webpage address, meeting schedule, maybe the EC info ect... Sound good?

Tim

Tim,

Sounds good. We installed all new hoses in Norms 4runner on Tues. I pulled the valve cover and found #3 exhaust cam lobe wiped prettty good, ever seen a brake rotor that went metal to metal for 5,000 miles. You get the idea. We are pricing out cams and other options at this point. On the way back to get the trailer my volt gauge pegged and the alt maxed out charging. It had about 40 miles on it. Needless to say we had long saturday and drank heavily that night. Mine looks like it is ready to go, Norms runs and drives but sounds a little loud. Either way they are both going on trailers leaving out of Richmond for Paragon. Norm will be using his dads truck and trailer combo.

Sorry to hear about the 80. I am going to Paragon, there is no question about that. There is just too much work invested in this project not to go.....I'm either going to drive with the knock, or I'm getting a new camshaft...I just thought I was done with the engine for a couple of months anyway. I had a new timing chain kit installed with a new cover, checked compression, and made sure everthing looked good a few months ago, and thought I could put off the engine rebuild for a year or so....

Anyway onto a new topic......

Last week I paid to get my dad's truck fixed for him. This was the day after he almost ripped off the bed of my Tacoma while backing up a landscaping trailer. (anyone have a used taco bed for sale?) So now I can trailer Riley up to Paragon. (Sorry Cam) I need the experience if we are planning on a few other trips in the upcoming weeks/months.....I'm used to hauling small tractors and golf carts around, not a full size truck on 37's.

Could I make the suggestion to move the March meeting up one week, I don't need to bring the truck up for Cam/John to take home anymore, and I could spend Wednesday night getting the truck/trailer loaded and ready to rock and to roll.........
