Club trip 2009

Hey guys I know it may be early but I have been thinking about a big trip again next year. I know Norm won the trip to Black Hills at CM. Does anyone want to go out there?
Now is your chance to post up where you want to go and why. I would like to see another big group like we had for the Roundup this past year. Remeber this is a wheeling trip so no trips to Key West... and unless you are going to pay for everyone nothing overseas!

Here is what I have so far:

Moab- why not, I still have not done all the trails, great scenery. once there very cheap to stay at the hotels in town, Meca of all four wheeling. They are starting to close some trails so do it before they do. Have you ever seen the sun come up over the Rockies? plus the Rubicon is just too far...

Black Hills- It is FREE for Norm once he gets there

I'll weigh in from the peanut gallery. As much as I would like to, I would most likely not be able to take what sounds like a 2 week or so cross-country wheeling trip, due to work and family obligations.

Remember These trips can be done in a week if done properly. Possibly use Memorial day so you only take off 5 days, Drive straight thru.30-38 hrs, Utah can be done in 32 . Wheel for 5 days and only use 9 days total, two weekends. This is can be done it just takes a comitment, a case of Red Bull (or your other favorite energy drink) Mountain Dew in between Red Bulls and two drivers.

Come on Guys lets get some more input!! I know a TLCA event would be ideal but most of these places are open other times as well.

Trish and Taylor are going to Coast Rica late spring. So I will be out for any long trips next year.

But she did say that I could plan a Moab Trip the following year.

For the sake of discussion...

I would love to go back to Texas, mainly for the party. If I drove, it would be just the Taco w/o the 40. Drive it around the Aussie highway, hang out at Camp, eat good food, drink good beer, listen to good music, enjoy the company of good friends. Not worth to me to double the cost of the trip just to have the 40 out there too.

Moab, Rubicon and the Black Hills are on the bucket list. Not sure the Taco can handle towing over the Rockies - that might be asking a bit much of the girl. If we had a fleet of goosenecks, I'd be down for bringing the 40 - but those spots are in high demand and low supply.

A quick look at google maps shows the Black Hills to be 1,750 miles away, on this side of the Rockies. I'd have to consider that before committing, but I might be up for that trip.

I'm always up for a passenger seat in a trail truck, or driving a chase vehicle to an event. I can usually get the time off work. Bottom line - pick an event or destination & pencil me in. Unless it's east coast, somebody can haul my junk, or I talk myself into towing to SD and back - I'll probably leave the 40 in the garage.

Tim

The Round Up was a good time, more at camp than on the trails I think we spend more time back there...

I would love to take a long road/wheeling trip, but my schedule (at least until i graduate this winter) is limited to thanksgiving, spring break, etc.

I would love to hit crozet in the mean time, its been way to long since the truck has seen action or ive seen any of you all. Who all are members?

Hey guys we talked about this at the last meeting. Any more thoughts? Tim I was thinking about Texas again this morning. I might be up for that, I have a lot going on this winter but it might be a good relaxer when it is all over. I still like Moab for Memorial Day week.

Does anyone know more about the terrain in Black Hills? I know John talked about having to drive an hour to get to the trails from camp. I am not too intrested in that.

I know times are tight but hell, we can web wheel and dream can't we!!!

Norm,
pics look good, but how far to the trail head? If it is like telico, it sucked driving that far to the trail head from Crawfords's. Campground was nice though with the showers.

Tim, I may not have a passenger if I do Texas, but I do have a gooseneck hitch !! ...and I know of 2 gooseneck trailers in the area

There seems to be a lot of web wheelin going on...slow day @ work?

I'd ride out to Texas again. If there is an empty spot on a trailer I can fill it too!

Memorial day 2009 is May 25 monday, that leaves the weekend before and after open and only 4 days of vacation to be used. Keep this in mind. Any takers for Moab that week? Leave friday after work, get there Sunday by lunch, wheel mon, tues, wed, thurs, friday, leave friday night, get a hotel in Denver or therabouts, get home sunday by lunch? Oh yeah go to Arches national park one day in there as well, maybe friday, that way we could leave on time to come home. And NO I do not think I will be taking that 4hr horse ride tour of the mountains again!!!!

Update: may 23-24 Moab Arts Festival www.moabartsfestival.org
may 28-30 Moab music festival funk, rock, reggae, folk, bluegrass music www.desertrocks.org

Gasoline as of today in Richmond $2.08 Diesel $2.99 If this keeps up we could do the west coast tour...

I am going to bite the bullet here and commit to Moab the week of Memorial day 2009. I think Norm is in as well. Tim can we count you in, we will figure out how to get you there if I have to drag you over the Rockies myself. I will even follow you up if you want so you will not feel "rushed" merly "pushed".
John Embry are you in? If not is your trailer for rent? We can work out the details.

Anyone else want to go?? Bloo? Remember now we are going to "share the wealth" so everyone should be able to afford it This is open to non-club members as well.

Think about it and lets post up and start making plans. Check out the "big horn lodge" for lodging, very reasonable for the price, centrally located, can walk to all resturants and bars/breweries and even grocery store, gas right across the street. This is where I stayed last time.

Rob

Rob,

I just checked with Dawn, if that is a testing week she will not be able to take off. I do know that that her spring break is the week of April 6th (6-10th). We could also consider that as well.

If the club (and BK) are going to do this, I'm in. TX will be out though. We can figure out trucks & trailers later.

Saw this on the Moab Chamber of Commerce Calendar:

May 28-31
5th Annual Desert Rocks - Four days and four nights of music, camping, and outdoor adventure in the majestic red rock canyon of Kane Creek, 8 miles West of Moab. The festival will include an eclectic mix of funk, rock, reggae, folk, and bluegrass music playing through sunrise. For more info check out www.desertrocks.org.

Not sure if this is reason to go over Memorial Day, or avoid it!

This is where I stayed before: Big Horn Lodge|Hotel|Motel|Accomodations|Moab Utah Lodging|Moab Motel|Moab Hotel|AAA|Reservations|Moab Reservations Central location in town. List price is $100.00 for two, per night for a room with two queens, fridge, tv, ect. $5.00 per person extra per night. pet friendly also. Most of the big name hotels are on the outskirts of town about 1 mile away which means you mostly drive everywhere to eat, drink ect. These rooms exit out to a covered walkway and the downstairs rooms have parking right out front. There is also bus parking and spots large enough for a tow rig and single trailer. Long trailer parking is out on the street, but safe, speed limit is like 25mph.

I need to call back and speak to a manager to get the group rates/discounts. I will do this once we get a better head count on how many are going.

Ok guys I called and talked with the manager: Here are the new rates, These rates are based on 5 night stay.

If we book 5 rooms cost is $79.95 per night plus taxes ect.

If we book 10 or more rooms the cost drops to $69.95 per night plus taxes ect.

These rooms have 2 queen beds, bath, cable tv, fridge, micro wave ect. They do have a pool and hot tub as well on site.

Rob
