Sweet! But needs bigger tires.

Welcome. Great rig...

Your system may be low on refrigerant. When I rebuilt mine a few years back, I believe that there is a switch that won't allow the compressor to run when refrigerant is low. I'd check that first and troubleshoot from there. Could be a number of things.

I moved to Colorado recently, so I won't see you at the next meeting, but you should join LSLC. It is a lot of fun.

plan on it. I hung out over at Toyota Trail Riders, i have been to quite a few meetings of theirs. I wanted to go on the 17th, but i was on call. And i had my system evaced, and the guy tried to put freon in it, but it wouldn't kick on the compressor.

there's a little dial on a box under the passenger's side dash, on the side of the blower. it controls when the compressor comes on, and i believe, if it's turned all the way one direction, it may not kick the compressor on. that's the easy fix. from there, it's all downhill. new clutch, new compressor, something along those lines. been down this road more times than i care to remember.
kinda hard to find the dial, but if needed, i'll take a pic of the location, and send it to you via email.

There should be a wire that comes from the passenger fender towards the compressor with a little clip that attaches to the compressor wire. Maybe it has been broken or disconnected?

check that wire. could be bad, could be disconnected, could just be unattached. the pulley you are spinning typically spins freely, until the comptressor clutch engages. you are getting no power, or the clutch isn't engaging? if the clutch isn't engaging, it could need freon. if it's no power, start with that pesky little wire.
i'll be working on my a/c today, and i'm in richardson. if you want to stop by, just give me a shout, and i'll see if i can help. cell- 214-923-5408.
edit: just looked at your tag line and saw where you live. your still welcome to stop by, but that is a bit out of the way.

Welcome Elliot!

I live on the east side of Ft Worth near I30 and east 820. I'm not a mechanic and I don't play one on TV. I do have a working AC on my FJ60, tho'. You can look it over and compare it to your rig if you like. Call me if I can help.
Happy Trails! N

about our power steering.....

for years I tried to save money by getting the pump rebuilt or buying a rebuilt one... after years of doing this, I strongly advise you to do what I ended up doing.... buying a brand new power steering pump from Toyota (WITH your TLCA, or LSLC 25% discount from Toyota Dallas.. or other dealers).

The rebuilts never seem to last a year, but a new Toyota OEM has lasted me 4 years without a problem. I DID add a power steering pump cooler though.
