Change from Pappas (?)

I don't know what the general consensus is regarding Pappas, but I know several of us have wanted to change meeting venues for a while. The TTR guys have found a new Hard8 BBQ has opened in Coppell and we're going over to check it out tonite if anyone is interested in coming out.
Location is on their website HERE. Mapquest says it's the same distance for me. It's about 12 miles from Pappas.

It looks like it's about the same distance for me too.

I've never been to Hard8 so I can't comment on it. I personally don't have a problem with Papas, but I can understand people getting tired of it after a while.

Great food, cheap Shiner, cute waitresses, plasma screen tv's on the porch and a parking lot of our own. It's worth the extra 10 minutes to me.

The Hard 8 BBQ
688 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, Tx 75019

Located at the corner of Freeport Parkway and Bethel Rd Old Coppell. We are one mile east of Bass Pro Shop at SH-121 taking Bethel Rd or one mile north of I-635 taking Freeport Parkway.

Here are some bad pics of the back porch:

I recommend that we have next weeks meeting there to check it out. The TTR guys are gonna be there and we asked the regional manager of Hard8 to come and join us. It'd be cool if we could get a big group there.

Chris summed it up well. It's bigger, newer, nicer, cheaper beer and better food. And yes, Hard8 is the place in Brady.

I took the pics. It is hard to take long exposure night shots without a tripod and have them come out good.

I'll second the motion to move next meeting to H8 to see if we like it.
Also, H8 is not to far from the newest BoneDaddy's....

I'm cool with it. It's a bit far from the house in east Dallas, but it sounds like a cool place.

I think it is good to shake things up a bit.

No matter what place we pick, the BBQ can't be any worse than Pappa's. I'm looking forward to eating some decent BBQ at the meetings when/if I show up.

Yeah, the BBQ is the worst I have ever had. How can all the rest of the Pappas restaurants be so good and it be so bad?

I think a change of venue will be interesting, but I think that the Hard 8 barbeque in Brady is about the worst barbeque I have every had in my life. The meat seemed stewed or baked instead of smoked, and the sides were bland. Its got a great name, though: "Hard 8". And you can be successful in this day and age, if all you have is a popular, catchy name. Never ate at the Stephenville one, though. Just talking about the one in Brady. So I will try it and keep an open mind.

Is there really a BoneDaddy's nearby? now that place has really good barbeque and HOT waitresses (not merely cute ones).

Wonder if either of these places will allow us to drink our own beer in the parking lot like Pappas did. They were very tolerant there at Pappas. And it was a very comfortable facility for our meetings.

I also wonder if they'll let us drink beer in the parking lot. If not, I may just have to start bringing a cooler again!

Nobody will actually 'let' folks drink their own beer in their parking lot. Pappas has just gotten to where they ignore us for the most part. They have come out in the past and told us to cut it out.
We specifically asked this guy at the Hard 8 about drinking their beer in the parking lot. He wasn't too sure, but the regional manager is supposed to be there on Thursday and he'll have the word. The local manager didn't seem to think it'd be a problem as long as we were good boys and girls.
They've got $1.75 16oz drafts and they're in plastic cups so I don't have a problem buying the beer there. Plus they've got a couple of 'bars' so you don't have to go through the line to get one.
Chris, sorry to hear you didn't like it. You're the first person I've heard say that.

Parking:

The main parking lot is the large lot on the east side of the building. There's a smaller lot on the west side of the building and that's where we want to park. It's right next to the outdoor meeting area and we should have it to ourselves for the most part.

I'm not going to be able to make it. I've got family coming in from out of town that evening. I'm not that picky about the meeting place, so if you guys like it I'll probably be ok with it.

hey, don't worry about it. I am just talking about the one in Brady. Looks like this Hard Eight in Coppell is outa Sephenville. Never been to that one. There website at http://www.hardeightbbq.com makes no mention of the one in Brady.

Does anyone remember Harvey's Barbeque on Grauwyler in East Irving? they had a satellite restauarant on the other side of town run by Harvey's brother in law. Harvey was ashamed that his name was on that restaurant. But he didn't want to do anything to anger his wife so he let it go on (then one day it burned down, and that was the end of his problem). This might be the case with how Hard Eight feels about the one in Brady. So I will keep an open mind.

also, I might have hit the Brady Hard 8 on a bad night.

The most important thing is who your eating with, anyway. But I liked the Pappas location for meetings. I think it was very comfortable for our meetings. I also am someone who invites 2 or 3 Land Crusier owners per month to meetings (people I meet driving Land Cruisers), and it was ALWAYS so EASY to tell them where our meetings are because everyone knew were Pappas BBQ was. It won't be quite as easy anymore, thats for sure.
