It is supposed to be better. It keeps working after it gets wet. They use it a lot on boat trailers that get dipped in the salt water when they are launching the boat.

There is some John Deere place out in Seguin or out towards Hondo that has it or apparently some Napa's carry it.

Works Great!

It is an entire diferent class than WD 40, sort of like PB Blaster is a whole other class than WD40.

The PO of one of my 80's used to run an atv rental off the beach in Mexico and swears by the stuff. Said it's lanolin based and he just powerwashes the undercarriage then sprays it everywhere except rotors. Dust really will stick to it, but the film will keep water/ oxygen off the metal. I saw this thread as I was looking for some others' experiences as I'm thinking of getting some before they start salting the roads.

This stuff is pretty good. It is lanolin based as mentioned and I have used it. Being from the east coast of Canada(years ago), we are lucky to get 5 years out of a vehicle before rust starts showing up. This is due to the 10 tons per mile of salt that is used in the winter for the roads. There is a special spray gun that is used to help "foam" it up. Holes are drilled in sealed ares such as rocker panels, door pillars, tail gates and sprayed in. After spraying the stuff on the underside of your rig, it is best to find the dustiest road and drive on it for a few miles. The dust gets in the film and helps seal it up. Your truck will smell like burning sheeps oil til' it gets burned off the exhaust. But other than that, its pretty good. Should be applied several times throughout the life of the vehicle. Around here in texas, I use cosmoline. It is a chemical, spray on or brush on metal coating. If anyone has ever had an engine rebuilt, you will know this stuff. It is a brownish film on new parts. Can only be removed with solvent. Works better, IMO, than the lanolin, but not sure about the cost difference. I use it like crazy and have given my 40 the name of the Cosmoline Queen!

Good info!

Depending on what the shipping cost is, it looks to be about 1/2 the price of Fluid Film. They offer free shipping at ~10/can. The cosmoline is $57 for a case of 12 cans plus shipping.

Thanks!

I priced the stuff i use and it is $13 a spray can and around $60 a gallon. More info is here:
A.W. Chesterton: Technical Products: 740

I have been happy with this stuff as it leaves a dry waxxy film on stuff rather than an oily film like the Fluid film.

If you navigate the above site, you may be able to locate a local seller of the stuff. Maybe even get a group buy on it...who knows. The spray cans do go a long way.

How did that canvas treatment work for Jen?

cosmo, ive had that crap all over a sks i bought a while back. Smells like shit but after awhile you start to like it. I dont see how it would be good on a vehicle though because melting point is about 150 degrees.

Yes there are some that "melt" away but depends on the product. I have been using th stuff since I have had my 40 and I swear by it. Smells for about 3 days then once it waxxes up, the smell is gone. You just have to find a brand that you are happy with. If you are near a local Caterpillar dealer, Holt the SA area, stop by the parts department and ask for the spray can of rust preventative spray part number 222-3121. Stuff is the bomb and I swear is made by the Chesterton company.

Hmm, now i like this idea. The 80 looks very new still but it is starting to wear off the original finish and dont want rust to start.

Kelly if you want to get a case ill buy two or three cans and we can split shipping.
