News on Boulder Creek Offroad Park

Just thought I'd post this. It's from Jay up in Austin.

"I talked to Jeff and he told me that alot of the clubs said they were gonna buy memberships and Jeff cut them all deals and tried and for the most part all but a few actually did get one. That money was inturn going to pay for the rent on the 750 that Jeff leases out and since its mostly all trails that the clubs made and are all lvl 4s and 5s except a few he feels like the people that are going to be mad are the clubs that cut the trails out there. As for the other part that isnt the 750, he owns all that, and he is looking into a long term lease of 3000 acres to the north for further use. The enviromental studies are from a set of people that are looking into buying the land for enviromental purposes. Jeff is going to try to get the 750 back as well as the new land and start more trails. But for a month the 750 will be closed until he can figure out if the clubs are going to take the buying of passes seriously to save the trails they cut, or if they are going to punk out like they been so far and keep bsing him. As for trails out there, I just got back yesterday from a prerun to see what the trails are like and I got to say, if we actually wheel the lvl 3s out there there is a weekend out of it. Also, I have seen a new trail that has opened up, a lvl 2, right before green horn, the trail head on it looks sick. It has multible lines up a stair step, looks to be a real fun trail to run. Snoopy falls is still looking to be pretty fun and doable for you and me Jen. I ran it with my truck and had a blast. I was looking forward to this weekend anyways but if no one goes its gonna suck. The part of snoopy falls Ive been cutting is coming along great so I guess if no one goes Im going to just punch through on it and see where it gets me. Also, the lack of response to the labor day weekend has also added to the closing of the 750. If we got 75 people to say they were going to go the 750 would be open labor day. As for me, I plan on working with Jeff and continuing to go out and cut trials and make this place a place for everyone to wheel, 750 or not. On september 20th, Jeff has told me alot of people are going to be out there to cut trails. With that said, lets make a trip out there and cut trails, Jeff is open to what ever we want to make into a trail and will most likely let us. I say we make this into what we want as a park if we want to continue wheeling it. I ran all day out there after I finished cutting from running out of gas and I barley hit up all that I felt would of been fun. I dont know about yall, but Im going, Im going to cut trails if no one shows, and Im going to have fun. All I can say is that if you dont want to pay the money to wheel, take the hard way to the cutting area, it makes it that much more fun, as well you get free time out there to come out and wheel all day. Also, that weekend he is having night wheeling all weekend. I think that will be fun if anyone is actually going to join me."

I am interested in the 'deal' he is offering clubs for memberships. We are an official TLCA sanctioned club now so I wonder if that would be extended to our group. It would be neat to have a trail we cut that was the Alamo City Land Cruisers'. Sort of like the Houston folks have that piece of beach at Matagorda they are responsible for.

With my delicate constitution, I of course will not be signing up to cut anything until it cools off some.

That money was inturn going to pay for the rent on the 750 that Jeff leases out and since its mostly all trails that the clubs made and are all lvl 4s and 5s except a few he feels like the people that are going to be mad are the clubs that cut the trails out there. The enviromental studies are from a set of people that are looking into buying the land for enviromental purposes.

I've got a few questions and concerns with this.

What? You mean Boulder Creek isn't a contiguous property owned by the same person or family?

So the 750, the "primary" off road area, is for sale or lease?

Boulder Creek has been selling memberships for the use of property that it doesn't own or have a long term lease agreement in place?

The enviromental studies are from a set of people that are looking into buying the land for enviromental purposes. Jeff is going to try to get the 750 back as well as the new land and start more trails. But for a month the 750 will be closed until he can figure out if the clubs are going to take the buying of passes seriously to save the trails they cut, or if they are going to punk out like they been so far and keep bsing him.

What? I thought the 750 was closed for an environmental study. How is Jeff going to "figure out" if he should reopen it when the environmental study puts it out of his control?

Excuse me!?! If the people that cut the trails want to be taken seriously they should buy a pass to a ranch that doesn't own or lease the property we've been paying to access for off roading purposes and at this point can't access this property?

Punking out and BSing him?!?!? Are you freaking serious? People don't buy passes to access property that may or may not be available and that's their fault? Wow. Just wow.

Also, the lack of response to the labor day weekend has also added to the closing of the 750. If we got 75 people to say they were going to go the 750 would be open labor day.

LOL. I thought the 750 was closed because an environmental study was being conducted OR because enough passes weren't sold. Which is it?

As for me, I plan on working with Jeff and continuing to go out and cut trials and make this place a place for everyone to wheel, 750 or not. On september 20th, Jeff has told me alot of people are going to be out there to cut trails. Hey, if you want to cut trails and wheel, knock yourself out. However, I'd make sure Boulder Creek actually owns the land where you're cutting those trails and that it will be available in the future.

I can give you several reasons why people haven't committed to attending Boulder Creek on Labor Day.

One: It's freaking HOT and most people don't camp in Texas in the summer. Myself and a few others were going to day trip to Boulder Creek but I'm not camping until at least October. Boulder Creek will see a rise in attendance when it cools off.

Two: I'm not going to Boulder Creek as of now because the 750 is closed and it's not worth the cost or time to me.

Three: Some people (not myself) aren't willing to shell out the gas money for a day trip in addition to the use fee.

Four: I've heard some feedback from people stating they have no problem with the $25 entry fee but can't see paying extra for a passenger or kids that are just riding along. You can spend more on admittance for your family than it takes to fill up your gas tank.

Five: There's a large event at Tree's Ranch the same weekend and has been on the books for at least six months and people made prior commitments to attend that event.

I don't know Jeff and have only exchanged a few emails with him. I'm going to assume that the information passed along is not accurate and will be cleared up. If I had purchased an annual pass and found all this out afterward, I'd be calling the Texas Attorney Generals to file a fraud complaint. In addition, how can Boulder Creek expect anyone to trust them to buy an annual membership at this point?
