Big Bend and Summer Monsoons?
The summer monsoons have started in the Big Bend region. I'm seriously thinking about doing a short trip to Big Bend in early August to enjoy the thunderstorms and wet weather, backcountry driving. The desert is incredible after a storm.
I'm thinking a Friday, Saturday and Sunday trip. Would anyone be interested in joining me? __________________ Brett in San Antonio, Texas Alamo City Land Cruisers Lone Star Land Cruisers - Austin '97 Lexus LX 450 TLCA # 11186 |

Actually, after looking at the calendar for next month, I forgot about the TMTC General Membership Meeting at the new off-road park in Ozona July 26th. I'll be camping at the new park for the weekend so Big Bend will have to wait until late summer or early fall.

I have always wanted to go to BB, lived in texas most of my life and have never been. The next trip i am going to make it a point to go. how much money will we burn in gas alone? save save save.

Well, if you figure one way is 425 miles x 2 = 850. Add 100 miles of driving around Big Bend and that equals 950 miles. Figure our trucks get about 13 mpg on average for the whole trip (highway and off-roading). That equals 73 gallons of fuel @ $4.00 per gallon = $292 for fuel.
Wow. I need a more efficient truck. You could always have someone ride with you and split the cost of gas. __________________ Brett in San Antonio, Texas Alamo City Land Cruisers Lone Star Land Cruisers - Austin '97 Lexus LX 450 TLCA # 11186 |

True. Then you should be able to go when we finally make it out to Big Bend.

Three hundred bucks for transpo to a vacation is not bad at all, especially if there is more than one passenger. I have a harder time packing and driving that far for just two nights. Wednesday to Sunday would be better. Of course I am not participating in planning anymore faux trips to BB

For a vacation, no, $300 isn't bad. For a "long weekend" it's a little much, for me. So, yes, Big Bend should be a longer trip with better planning. I hope we can find the time to do it before next spring.

I really miss having the desert close by. I could happily camp out there every weekend.
