Get very familar with the instructions this week. MARK EVERYTHING. A pin punch works best to mark the adjuster's location to the case. Don't mix sides or bearings and make sure the adjusters go in straight and not cross threading.

DO NOT, DO NOT foul the adjusters original location. Otherwise you will need a dial gauage to reset the backlash (not a big deal, atleast for me).

Make sure to check the two clearances the locker calls for. You can technically dial it in to be more or less agressive but you will need the set of Toyota side gear thrust shims. Usally if the clearances are within spec everything will work smoothly.

Richard this would also be an excellent time to repack the rear wheel hubs. They are nearly identical to the fronts.

Josh your simi-float bearings should be fine and need nothing. However, with that mileage and plans for more wheeling, personally I would change them. A press will be needed though.

Either way if you guys only do the lockers, bearing services can be done anytime.

RTV works to resale the 3rd member but I would get the Toyota gasket and clean the sealing surfaces to ensure no leaks.

BTW, with the added strain the lockers put on the pinion spacer, now would be the time for a solid spacer. JT's has these but not listed, of course after I did all my diff work.

Oh if it was me, I would pull the diff out Friday and get stuff cleaned up. It will take you guys a whole day to do the locker, especially the way we wrench in a group.

I'll try to come if something is setup Saturday to lend some pointers but I have some errands to run around town.

Well my schedule has changed and it looks like I have to work this weekend. But luckily I haven't been very busy so I decided to install my locker this afternoon. The install was very strait forward and easier than most might imagine.I was able to complete it in only a few hours at a snails pace, no additional spacers required.now if I could only decide on what tires to run...

ah man, you should have called me. I would have come over and lent a hand or even helped you drink your beer

So pretty easy huh, did you do all the list that Ben put down? I saw that and started second guessing myself.

should have repacked the bearing but I didn't. I'll save that for when I rebuild my beirfs. all in all a pretty simple install. The only part I was worried about was removing the third. although it is awkward to handle it inst terribly heavy. maybe 65 pounds or so.and it didn't just fall out like some might lead you to believe. like I said only a few hours even at leisurely pace. oh yeah it was hottttt outside. I definitely see why Ben has implemented his " no wrenching on others junk during the summer" rule.

How about a non-wrenching bbq on Friday or Saturday? Maybe we can all detail our trucks (under Ben's strict guidance). My truck is a dustball after last weekend. Plus, Jacob wants to trade his brother's 32" MT on black rockcrawler rims for my AT's and stock rims. It would be nice to get some input on the look and mechanics of it. This is my second chance for bigger tires!

Coolness Richard! Your response is the typical one after a noob finishes one of these lockers. I'm sure all the stuff I posted up makes sense now does it not?

Which, Josh don't let it scare you. It's more then you need to know but stuff I think you should be aware of if something goes south.

BTW, a bbq sounds fun. I'd love to host again but I'll be around town Saturday. Let me know when and where though and I'll bring the swim trunk and goggles.

After reading the instructions and fsm a few times and wondering if i should, I have started the install. Everything ive seen and the write up per HAyes is for full floating axles, i have semi. So my question is do i go with the c'clip type install on aussie's instructions?
If this is the one i dont even have to remove the third member right, can just pop off the rear plate?
