haha, it'll only have to make it about a mile or two. cause that's how far it is from the trailer parking to the campsite!

the event will be held on labor day weekend again this year, just like every year. you're more than welcome to attend. and here's the best part: it's FREE and so is the raffle!

We had a large group on Saturday's waterfall trail, and made good progress (9am-2pm...I think). Everyone made it through ('cept Darius who was playing around a little on his own, heh, sorry Darius! ), and we got acquainted with some really entertaining FUN folks. I can't say enough about how friendly this bunch is.
Our customer run has been held at Katemcy Rocks for the last 5 years, and barring the diesel price scare, we are looking forward to doing it again. The mix of people and environment have always enhanced our wheelin' experience in this unusual topography of Texas.
Shain/Randy/Butch, you guys are over-the-top in your efforts , we will be happy to pitch-in anytime with raffle or trail guiding or anything else you ever need from us.

have you ever been there? that's a pretty ignorant post to say the least. just because there were some minor issues with a couple of the attendees does in no way mean that the place does'nt offer top notch wheeling or camping. your post is an insult to the people who own the property, to the TLCA and to the lone star land cruisers.

Just sittin here 1000 miles from home drinkin' beer and surfin' MUD ...

As a TLCA member since 1992, reckon I've been to more events than most. For many years ... and many events ... I was a loner and got damn little out of an event other than than the actual wheelin'. When I hooked up with Lone Star I was introduced to the more social aspects of an event. Then I formed my own club to build upon the social aspect. Guess the point is that these events can be whatever you make of 'em. I know The White Trash camp had a nice flow of "strangers" strolling thru to say Howdy and my Peterbilt doors were open most of the time with curious onlookers. And that's good shit. Get out and meet Folks.

The major reason I donate so much of my time at this event to tech and the raffle is to support the free-for-all format of this event ... a lil' somethin' different is a good thang. Just takes some gettin' used to compared to the more structured events elsewhere.

I met them Hummer Follks for the first time and got to like 'em by the end of the weekend. But if'n they ... or anybody else ... drove right thru my camp I reckon I'd chase 'em down for a good ol' high-spirited discussion ... clear the air right quick-like ... and then have a beer with 'em.

As for dogs, I'd sure hate to see 'em banned like other events. My girlfriend brought 'er man-eatin' weenie dog ... and kept it on a leash or in 'er pen all weekend. Well 'cept once when the lil' critter got away from me and I chased 'er into the CottanLand camp 'fore I could catch 'er. With that said ... reckon it was a good thang them stray dogs didn't stray into our camp. Can't blame the dogs though ... need to identify the owners and ban THEM.

And I agree the shitters got way nasty by the end of the weekend.

Bottom line is hope to see all y'all again next year. I know I'll be there. And I'll be more than happy to guide you out on the rocks ... or better yet ... share a beer with ya in our camp. We're hard to miss.

I enjoy the dogs at these events. They add a lot to running around the trails and I certainly don't want them banned. I think next time a little talk with the dog owners will be solution to the problem.

Is there a GPS map of the Katemcy trails? If not, I'll volunteer to make one. Randy, if you'll lead the way, I'd like to make a GPS map with waypoints of the easier trails for future use. I think it would be really helpful for upcoming events.

Glad to hear in advance about anything negative that would give me a heads up not to attend. That is how it should be taken. No, I don't want to go to an event where people are careless with their dogs, run their trucks through peoples camp sites and generally act irresponsible. Brett told it how he saw it, and I was happy to hear the details because it told me that Katemcy wasn't for me without me wasting my time and money going to find out myself. Who is bashing you?? I'm not bashing you, I am electing not to go to an event that has these sorts of things going on, and I have a right to state my opinion about what happened according to members if the ACLC at that event.

You can take my post however you want to. That's your choice, and it's my choice to not attend an event that allows people to let their dogs run rampant, pissing on peoples property and generally making a lot of racket til the wee hours of the morning etc. People driving through camp as to almost run people over is another inexcusable act. The irresponsible acts reported are what would keep me from attending that event. Not to mention rock crawling isn't my style of wheeling.

Enough with the negative. Let's find solutions and seek ways to improve.

I gave my two cents earlier, and got bashed. I felt I had a right to defend myself.

i organize an event and have done so for 7 years now. there is absolutely no way for an organizer, no matter how much help he has, to keep an eye on everybody at the event at all times. so if you consider that there were 190 vehicles at an event and the worst offenses that happened was that a couple of dogs were running around unleashed and being a general pita ( which is definetly to be blamed on irresponsible dog ownership ) as well as a couple of rookie drivers not knowing proper camp/trail etiquette, then i think the event organizers did a great job.
i ask all my attendees to keep their dogs leashed at all times while in camp. outside of camp, they can do what they want. i bring my dogs and they're leashed at all times while in camp.
i also had my dog at katemcy last year and he was on a leash at all times. sometimes people just need to be made aware of how they need to handle certain situations.

last but not least, katemcy is not all about hard core rock crawling. there are plenty of trails for mall crawlers. i spent a few hours with woody, gustaf and a few other guys in the "trail team" FJCruisers last year wheeling some of the mild trails at katemcy and we had a ton of fun without damaging a rig or getting stuck.

Nobody is blaming you guys for what happened at the event. Shit happens, and I think you take my comments too personally. I just don't want to go to an event and have to worry whether I will get run over in my tent sleeping at night etc. Not your fault those dummer guys showed up. Let's just get over this. Dirty laundry shouldn't really be aired on the forum anyway. We're all friends here, so let's just shake hands and have a beer.

i'll have to agree and dis-agree with that statement.

i disagree about this being posted. i think it should be. without constructive critizism, improvements might not happen as fast as they ought to. that goes for any situation.

i do agree on the though.

and i still think that you outta give katemcy a shot. like 9i mentioned before, i live in northern CA. on any given weekend, i can go to the following trails:
rubicon
fordyce
duzy ershim
barret lake
hollister
cow mountain
deer valley
spicer trail
slickrock
cherry lake
moon rocks
pismo beach
mc grew trail
hungry valley
the hammers
calico
and mamny, many more. yest i still try my best to make the anual trek to the roundup at katemcy. i think that speaks for itself.

# 1. I stand by the offer to go wheeling with you anywhere in TX, CO, where they have a 5 day event with people camping there from all over the country and the attendance is 300 or over and everyone is totally happy at the end of the event. No issues and not one person affends anybody in some way.
2. Make no mistake Katemcy is a Rock Crawling place. We have no mud, sand or miles of senic lazy trails. We may not be your fortay for wheeling. Thats why we have been open for 6 years a 100 miles down the road and you have not been here yet.
3. If you enjoy Land Crusiers, Fellowship, Good food, good Music and the chance to see some country a little different from every where else. Then I incourage you to drive down here next year for the Roundup event. Park your Cruiser and enjoy everthing else. It will be worth your while.
4 Changes will be made next year and I gaurantee they will afend someone.

In Torry's defense, he is completely entiled to post his opinions freely in his club section without ridicule. Please leave opinions to other's response out of this thread. This has been a great constructive analyses and I don't want to see it turn and have to closed.

But Torry, I think Round Up is worth attending, especially the bar-b-que night. If you don't have a blast 'wheeling I promise you'll have fun at the dinner event. Addictive as 'wheeling is, it isn't drugs so everything is worth at least one try to find out for your own.

More Pics

Here are some of Leonard's photos from Roundup. The first two are of his truck, one four down and the other when he was 'testing' his new RTT . Hopefully he will be bringing it out tonight, he has a very cool setup.
