FYI: Nueces River Access

Interesting article about attempts to allow driving in the Nueces River again. I miss this fantastic resource but I fully understand why they had to ban 4x4’s from the area. It’s sad just a few dumb asses can ruin it for everyone.

Interesting! I'm personally in the opinion that if we are doing devasation to the course of natures original plan, there are other things to do and more places to go. There are places to wheel that don't tear up the dirt and natural tract of water, like marble falls or even other creeks with hardstone bottoms.

I might be odd man on this one but

Are they freakin kidding me?

People are always citing something like this to ban people from doing anything even remotely recreational that goes against their extreme environmental whacked thinking. For instance, Enchanted Rock State Park.... They were citing 'errosion' some time back. How ridiculous! That granite up there has eaten away probably 10 pair of $200 boots since I started hiking there years ago. I can see errosion of my boot soles, but not of that pink granite.

Next they will be trying to ban people from Padre Isl. All the trash on the beach I see should be more concern to them than driving in dunes or whatever. I personally think, especially being a person who works on oil platforms, that companies like Shell, Chevron, Exxon/Mobil etc should be paying a crew to go to Padre and haul all that trash away. It all comes from the rigs/boats in the Gulf of Mexico. It's true, and the companies even say that everything from the gulf that gets into the water off the boats and rigs ends up on Padre because of the currents.

That whole last paragraph was off topic, but I can see some things as being extreme, while at the same time things that should REALLY be addressed are being totally IGNORED.

Enchanted Rock erodes like a mutha. Click on this link and check out the stream-bed between the rock and Hwy 965. Follow it. It turns into a very wide, dry river of eroded granite (the creek is called Big Sandy, IIRC) and it goes all the way to LBJ Lake. Even as far away as the lake, the sand is probably 30 feet deep, or more. That's a lot of Enchanted Rock!

Just thinking out loud…..

Being the rock is part of the Llano uplift; I wonder what the ratio of erosion to uplift is?

Has anyone explored the caves at the top of the rock? It’s been years since I went through them but what a blast it was.
