Post Maintenance Party / Big Bend Trip Prep at Brett’s House Saturday, Feb. 16th

I'm in need of some major birf and front axle assistance. So come one, come all to my house this Saturday for great food and drink. My truck is in need of some love and attention and while I can follow the directions in the book, I really could use some help with repairing my front axle woes. I'll provide BBQ and drinks (beer, tea, etc.) if you'll provide the company and expertise.

I'm located in north central San Antonio near Blanco and Bitters Rd in the Hidden Forest Subdivision (right across from Silverhorn Golf Club). Start time to be updated by Thursday.

Email or PM me for directions and beverage preferences.

This would be a great chance to do the Big Bend finalization discussions also. I just stuck that thread and made mention for a meeting. If it's ok with you Brett I'll just update it so your wrench day is the meeting.

This would be a good time to put in my sub tank. I have everthing and if I find a pleasing solution other than the rivnuts this week I'll defiently bring it.

BTW Brett, I just got you email and I'll pull up a list of the part#'s you should need.

90310-35010- SEAL, INNER AXLE X2 $unknow and the number may be updated to 90310-35005

43422-60060- GASKET, FRONT AXLE OUTER SHAFT FLANGE X2 $1.51

90215-42025- WASHER, FRONT WHEEL ADJUSTING LOCK X2 $1.97

43521-60011- NUT, FRONT WHEEL ADJUSTING X2 $6.20

43436-60011- GASKET, KNUCKLE SPINDLE OIL RETAINER X2 $1.14

43435-60020- GASKET, KNUCKLE SPINDLE X2 $1.06

43239-60030- SEAL, STEERING KNUCKLE OIL, OUTER X2 $9.95

43238-60021- SEAL, STEERING KNUCKLE OIL, INNER X2 $11.46

43237-60040- RING, STEERING KNUCKLE OIL SEAL, INNER X2 $8.23

Ok here is the stuff you'll need to fix the "problem"

90126-12005- BOLT, STUD (FOR STEERING SET) X8 $1.57

42323-60020- WASHER, CONE (FOR STEERING KNUCKLE ARM) X8 $3.00

90201-12019- WASHER, PLATE X8 $1.12

94115-71200- NUT X8 $.94

I would also order at least two trunion bearings just in case. You can return them if your's are not toast from the studs going bye-bye. If you need new bearings you'll want to get these shims just in case also, again returnable if we don't need or use them.

90366-20003- BEARING (FOR STEERING KNUCKLE ARM) X2 $22.55

43233-60030- SHIM, STEERING KNUCKLE ADJUST X1 $1.77

43234-60020- SHIM, STEERING KNUCKLE ADJUST X1 $2.30

43235-60020- SHIM, STEERING KNUCKLE ADJUST X1 $3.40

43236-60020- SHIM, STEERING KNUCKLE ADJUST X1 $.70

That should be all the parts and quantities you need in order to re-pack both sides. Everything is pretty much by x2 if you didn't notice but the price is full Toyota list for each. So just multiply the quantity for each and take 20% if you're going to use the Universal Toyota Account.

Sweet. I'll order those at Universal ASAP. Will you forward me the group number again? Also, I posted my issue in the 80's tech group and a few people said I may additional seals or new steering arm bolts. what do you think?

Are you seriously going to be trying to install a diff there?? This is more to work on Brett's ride and anything small on others. For me a diff is cake but I'd ask Brett if he's cool with that idea. How capable are your skills in installing that diff??

Wait Adam is that you??

Brett, that list of parts should have you coverd. Just make sure to pick up three cotter pins for the tie rod ends. I'll bring some over just in case and a tie rod end puller. Let me know if you don't have the large socket for the hub nuts.

One more thing, those quantities I listed are for BOTH sides. I think it would be a good idea to insure there isn't any future problems with the other side.

$7.92 list on the seals. Should be able to get them for six and a quarter or so. Each.

Too bad the Marlins won't work. Or will they . . . ?

Wow, you guys rock. I really appreciate everyone volunteering to help get my rig back on the road. This type of repair would have been near impossible to do at my casa without all the expertise in the club.

HAHA, at first I was like, "who is this yahoo jumping in the group with a diff they want to install?" Then I realized the similar name and diff thing and it clicked.

If Brett's cool with it, I'd be fine going between helping both you guys. I still might bring my sub tank. I'll just try and have something done for the rivnuts so all I'll have to do there is bolt it up.

I don't think Marlin carriers seals for the 80. For some reason the seals for the mini trucks and earlier LC's are different. Those Marlin units are wayy nicer than the oem seals.

I just looked at the weather and Saturday looks like it might be cold and messy. Sunday looks clear though. Could you move it to Sunday if the weather keeps looking bad for Saturday?

Moving to Sunday is no problem for me. I have my garage cleared out and my truck in the garage in case of poor weather so either day is fine.

It looks like all the parts will be here on Thursday. I'm going to check the housing to see if the threads are stripped. If so, I may order a new housing. Gotta get the old girl back on the road. One car for a busy family is no fun.

FYI: Or club discount that Ben set up saved me OVER $100. The first total for all parts was $355. After the Alamo City discount, my total was $247. SWEET.

Brett I might have time in the morning to head down to the junk yard that has a rolled 80. I'll see how much they want for a knuckle housing if it isn't hurt from the roll. Just so you know, a new one is just over $200.
