O-fficial Big Bend Multi-chapter run Thread (Feb 2008)

Well, it's that time of year again. I feel the call of the Chisos Mountains to go back to the desert. Brett Naquin (Brettinsanantonio) and I (Tin Star) are putting together a multi-chapter run to the Big Bend area. Members from LSLC DFW, LSLC Austin, Alamo City Cruisers, Texas Land Cruiser Club- Houston, and TTR are invited to attend.

The trip is scheduled for February 21st-25th, 2008. We will spend a couple of days traveling the roads of Terlingua Ranch and Solatario, visiting the Terlingua Ghost town (and starlight theater) as well as a day or two in the Big Bend National Park. If you have never been, ask someone who has....you will not be disappointed. It will be a great trip for anyone who wishes to attend.

We plan on doing mostly expedition style wheeling, with a little creek bed exploration for a little more challenging run if people would like. I have never been when I did not see lots of wildlife and interesting landscapes.

We are tentatively planning on using my adobe house as a "base of operations" and gathering point to heading off into the wilderness. Space inside the house is limited, but there are plenty of places nearby to pitch a tent with amazing views. The adobe house is available for use for all the amenities of home (toilets, running water, etc.) for those camping nearby. For those that would like a little more comfort, you can make accommodations at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge where they have cabins available for rent, along with a restaurant and gift shop. It is not far from the adobe and we can all meet up prior to our daily excursions.

That shouldn't keep you from being able to go. Those two items should have nothing to do with her job. Just bring her with you.

No worries. There will be other opportunities in the future. With spring approaching, we're already talking about beach runs to Matagorta and Padre Island National Seashore.

Hey same here! I'm going to try and make at least one meeting per quarter in Austin. You guys have an awesome group.

Yeah, I know the Terlingua trip is close to Round up. It's not the best timing but it's the only dates Chris Smith could make work. There will be many other opportunities to explore that area in the future. We'll get a big group out there at some point. No worries.

Jason and I were talking last night about putting together a big, multi chapter/club campout along the Guadalupe River in the late spring or early summer. Not much wheeling to be had but good times next to the river would be fun. We could do a giant picnic and take a group photo with all the trucks along the river.

You sure are indecisive We should have a better idea on actual numbers after our meeting on Thursday. I'm all for figuring out the details... some people like to just play it by ear though

You have plenty of time to make up your mind. Its a whole two and half weeks away

So what is the head count for SA people going? I'm still up in the air, but I'll know for sure probably by the end of this week.

Also since a new member, Leonard could not make last week's meeting I propose we have another either this Thursday or Friday for those interested in the trip. This will give us a chance to meet and discuss supplies, exact departure times and ulimately be an excuess to have some .

Brett, are there any Austin people comming along? Maybe we could meet midway for a meeting in San Marcos if there are.

I'm not sure of the head counts but I'm currently communicating with the Dallas guys concerning some details that have come up in the last day or two. I'll post more info tonight as it becomes more clear what's happening.
