80's of Orange County, meet and greet, this Sunday

Copy of the PM from Slomo aka Mark the organizer.

Wildomar OHV 80s Meeting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings all,

Just a friendly reminder that next Sunday the 26th is the Orange County 80 get together. We will be meeting at Wildomar OHV area from 10-10:30 am to allow time for stragglers. For those who don' know how to get there see directions at the bottom. Just a forewarning there is no cell reception down at the OHV but it is possible to get reception most of the way up on the east side of Hwy 74 and at the summit in select areas. Coming in from the west you should have reception for about 3 miles possibly until you reach the Nichols Institute (Only stoplight). You can reach me at (949)412-6036 and I will try to either be in an area where I get reception or I will check for messages if practical. I wouldn't count on it but I will do my best. I look forward to meeting everyone and wheeling some 80s. You can PM me or call my cell if you have any questions or input. All are welcome.

Directions:

From the 5 fwy and Ortega Hwy take Ortega Hwy 74 east. Be careful the first couple miles through town as they radar and ticket heavily there, follow the speed limit! Most of the Hwy is radared heavily so be forewarned. Continue east about 7 or 8 miles you will pass a Dept. of Forestry fire station. Do not turn off, continue on it will get windy. Continue past the Candy Store about 1-2 miles at the end of a straight the speed limit drops from 55 to 40mph as you enter El Cariso. The CHP radars and tickets big time to keep the weekend warriors on thier crotch rockets and Harleys in check. Again follow the speed limit. About a quarter mile down you will see a ranger station and CDF/Dept. of Forestry fire station. Turn right just past those onto South Main Divide Rd (No stop sign). Continue Approximately 8 miles and it will lead right into Wildomar OHV. There is a dirt parking area and toilets there. We can head out after all arrive. .

From the 15 and Hwy 74 exit and head west following the signs. You will wind up on Riverside St. heading true west which will swing 90 degrees left and turn into Grand Ave. Turn right at the first stop sign and head up the mountain. Just after you hit the summit sign you will turn left onto South Main Divide Rd (No stop sign). Continue Approximately 8 miles and it will lead right into Wildomar OHV. There is a dirt parking area and toilets there. We can head out after all arrive.

I know this is an 80's thread, but I'm not too far from Wildomar. Would a 62 be welcome, or would you shun me? Remember, I have an automatic transmission and power windows, too!

Ha - I'm so excited - I replaced my spare. So there!

I sorta had to with the minor carnage in DV (read major sliced sidewall).

Hope we get the turnout that committed. Should be a fun day to put more cruiser 'names' with faces, especially local ones!

I was really looking forward to seeing your truck (and huge lift) up close (since I wasn't very perceptive as we passed on hwy 18 in Big Bear). Congrats on the youngin though. btw what is the youngest child ever on a run - 5 days old would be tough to beat .

I will be going on the the Rohwer Flats trail drive 3/25 on Sat with PabloVTA's group but count on me being present at Wildomar to at least meet everybody and see the armored 80s that will be there.

Need to get some serious ideas on either OME mediums or heavies as I hope to get them before the end of summer (or maybe earlier before my next kid pops out Sept). Yeah no more fun(ds) after that .

I've had the medium no lift and now the heavy 2" lift. Without question, the 850/863 heavy is better. WOW better. Road manners are better and comparing the runs at Anza with the stock height medium vs. the runs in Death Valley with the lifted heavies was no comparison, even for my relatively uneducated offroad butt to seat. I've been driving this truck for 12 years, and this is the best I've experienced.

Postscript - I may have to bail at the last minute. Both cold faucet handles in our master bathroom are now completely crapped out and not worth just replacing the valve stems (they are 20 years old!). If I can find suitable replacements, I may be playing plumber most of this weekend. No butt crack pics will be posted!

Dang it Brent. I was really looking forward to seeing your rig (will use it as a template for my white 80).

Since we might not see each other:
Do you have any issues/mods to the LSPV, brake lines, or drive line vibrations with the heavies (it sits taller than the mediums when loaded the same right?)
Any negatives you want to mention?

Thanks.

Scott - you're going to have to explain that one about josephroy!

Ok - just ordered a couple of faucets online and they won't be here by this weekend - damn! Guess I'll have to come.

txkndu - MAF did nothing to the LSPV or brake lines. From everything I've learned here, nothing is needed with just the 2" 850/863 heavy lift. No drive line vibrations either. She's as smooth as ever, even chasing Scott at 80 mph! My understanding of the heavies is that they can take an add'l 500lbs in the rear and sit the same as the mediums. MAF had accidentaly put the medium 2" in the rear and when they swapped out those for the 863 heavies I did take note of the thicker coil. It was noticable.

I certainly have no negative comments after spending 4+ days thru DV on them.

anyone from the LA/North OC area want to meet up and ride together? I am in Long Beach (south LBC about a mile from OC). I haven't really fiqured out the best way to go yet. I would love to meet up with one, two, three, ten, ... people and drive down together. I think it would be cool to have a number of cruisers taking over the highways of SoCal for a day.. Let me know if anyone is interested..

Well guys - it wasn't meant to be. Can't make it. Took the truck in to dealer for their cheapy $25 oil change (I can hardly do it for that price) and they come back out and tell me the oil drain plug is stripped and won't hold the drain plug any longer. Talked to the tech and he said (away from everyone) that he noticed a lot of shavings on the plug when he removed it.

Oil pan sub assembly (replace the lower portion of the oil pan) is necessary. They don't stock, called American Toyota hoping Dan was there and would have the part in stock as he's the best at 80 parts, no dice. Dan was gone for the day and they didn't have it either according to his staff. Computer is showing one in stock up in LA and 15 more in San Francisco. Hopefully the computer inventory is correct so they can get the part ordered Monday and installed Tuesday.

I have no truck to see you guys at Wildomar. I already had hi-lift on the roof rack and stuff strapped down in the rear ready to go tomorrow morning. This was just supposed to be a quick oil change for me and a 5000 mile oil and inspection for my daughter's Xa.

On the bright side, dealer did have one FJ there. Like it much better in person than any pic I've seen. Bad part at Family Yota is that they are adding $2500 leather seats to EVERY FJ they are selling. They also had a back-up camera and XM radio on this one, in addition to the upgraded wheels. Sticker was $28K and with all their extra crap asking almost $35! No premium being asked for tho.

I'm really bummed!

I might not make it.

Just got back from the Rowher half day trail run with the Gold Coast Cruisers. Pretty much run down and probably catching a cold - it was cold and windy in those mountains.

If I can I will try to go - after all this is an 80s meet.

Hope to see everybody.

It's been raining in Irvine tonight. What are the chances we are rained out (i.e., gate closed)?
