CruiseMoab 06 Camping
OK, I'm a CruiseMoab newb. I just registered and want to go ahead and reserve a camp site. I'll be with my Dad and my 4 yr. old son. We plan on camping. Are there several different sites that everyone ends up at? Are some camp areas nicer than others?
Also, does everyone set up camp for the four days and leave their stuff up during the day while they're wheelin'? If so, is there room for the larger family size tents? Are some of the sites more remote than others or are they really spread out? Just curious how tight it gets with 150 vehicles nearby. Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a better feel for planning purposes. Thanks, Greg __________________ 2001 UZJ100 Land Cruiser ARB bar, OME lift (863's, N74L's), Slee diff drop, 295 BFG AT's, Slee step-sliders, Slee rear bumper, Husky liners, Hella 4000's My Featured 100 Thread Last edited by Greg B; 01-03-06 at 06:31 PM. I Solve Problems...

I've never camped on-site -- it's been hotels in the past for me.
I'd prefer to be where the HQ is for Rising Sun. I think I'll be staying at Spanish Trail RV park this year. Haven't decided if I'm hauling the tent trailer with me or not...makes for slower travel... __________________ a couple pairs of pink panties... This year their is a new campground site for Cruise Moab - no more snow
, and I think they are going to be at Spanish Trail Campground..Since, this is your first time at CM, I would stay at the campground with the group to meet everyone and participate in the festivities __________________ Joe 69 FJ40 350TPI, 270:1, 37" MTRs 71 FJ55 454V8 "Warthog" FZJ80 coil conversion 96 FZJ80 Locked & Blown, Homer Closer to the bone the sweeter is the meat...... Camping in the campground with the rest of the CM contingency is alot of fun.
However, one of my problems with the slickrock campground is that you were so stacked up on one another that you could hear the bodily functions of the guy or girl in the tent next to yours. blech. Personally, I am debating getting a site at the Spanish Trails RV park or just going to one of two of my usual places. I know of some GREAT camp sites not far from town if you wanna get off the beaten path. __________________ James Henry Wasatch Cruisers TLCA 11233 76 FJ40 'SeldomSeen' 91 VZN130 'CanOWorms' |

I will have a 5mo old...so for our and everyone elses sanity I will be taking the motel option. But I understand how great the contingency is at the campsite.

Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it. I think I'm going to reserve a spot at the Spanish Trail park.
One question that I don't think anybody caught. Does everyone leave their camp set up while they are out wheeling? You don't pack everything each day to go out do you; is it pretty secure? Obviously you wouldn't want to leave valuables, but stuff like tents, camp chairs, etc.? __________________ 2001 UZJ100 Land Cruiser ARB bar, OME lift (863's, N74L's), Slee diff drop, 295 BFG AT's, Slee step-sliders, Slee rear bumper, Husky liners, Hella 4000's My Featured 100 Thread |

We look forward to seeing you there. I know it's pretty good hump from KY but it'll be worth it for sure
There's always folks out there early if you want to get ahead start on a few trails or just go visit arches, island in the sky, etc.

Yeah, its gonna be a haul, but we're going to make a larger trip out of it. We're going to leave KY on the Thursday before CM06 and drive to the Grand Canyon. Spend a few days camping there, neither my Dad nor I have been there, and then head over to Moab on Tuesday. That way, we'll have Wed. to register and check things out (site seeing etc.) in Moab before the trail rides on Thursday. All total, it should end up being around 4000 miles.

The Holiday inn express was staggering distance to Slickrock camp ground.
I stayed Down town at one of the Best Westerns. Walking distance to the food. We drove over to Slickrock and hung out. Worked fine. Tom Woods Driveshaft shop said at the dinner that if you need to work on your rig he would have a flat area that could be used at his shop. Might want to contact him for more information. |

Staggering as in far away or staggering as in easy to get to after a few banquet beers? __________________ 1994 FZJ80 ARB front, Iron Pig Rear, Aussie Locker, ARB front locker, Destination MTs, Line X Atlanta, GA "It it compromises truth then we will go"-- "Salvation Song"- The Avett Brothers |

The banquet is held outside the town limits so everyone drives to that.
But from the Slickrock campground you could easly stagger back after a few beers from the Holiday Inn. Not sure about the distance from the new headquaters campground. NEarly everyone was around the campground Thursday Night watching the slide show from the days wheeling. The Rising Sun group does an excellent job with this event. If yoiu have never been, contact one of the organizers and get more information from them. If you are not sure about a trail call or email and ask. Tell them about your truck and your wheeling experience and they can guide you to appropriate trails for your level mild to wild. There is a trail for everyone at this event. Last years CM05 was my first TLCA event and it was a terrific experience. |

The Holiday Inn is very nice. It's almost brand new. Maybe two years old. Last year with all the rain, it was nice to soak in the indoor pool and look out the window...

Just to point out, we are not at Slick Rock this year. We moved to Spanish Trail based on the complaints about the cotton and how run down the facilities were getting

Romer,
How big is the new campground? Would there be space for everyone? I have never been there. They lady there wants to charge each person a tent fee even if they share an RV spot. What we need to do is let them know that people will go elsewhere if they do this.
The campground itseld is suppose to be nicer than slick rock and should be able to accomodate everyone. |

I have stayed at both (Slickrock & Spanish Valley), both have definite trade-offs...
Andre (dieselcruiserhead) and I are considering camping outside of town this year, the invitation is open to all. One of us will spread the word as soon as we find a suitable location, I am heading down there in a couple weeks and hope to do a bit of scouting...
