VA Wheeling - Saturday 12/17
I know it will have only been a couple weeks since a lot of you guys went out, but is anyone up for another day trip this Saturday the 17th?
A couple of the CLCC guys and I are planning on taking on some trails. Where, you ask? Well, my first thought was GWNF, of course. I've only done Salt Shed, so it would be great to try some of the other trails. But, we're open to suggestions. So, anyone have any ideas? Felix |

I could be up for it. But i still need to assess the damage from the last run, i.e. change fluids and look at a new leak form the t-case. I'll let you know.

I think I would be up for it.
I have done Salt Shed and Flag Pole Knob but I have not done 2nd Mountain or Dictum Ridge. With the snow and ice that we are supposed to get this week, anything would be interesting. |

My pinion flanges are mini truck bolt pattern, and t-case outputs are Cruiser. SOA, stretched wheelbase, so basically custom shafts. I am waiting in a new set of springs before getting new shafts, as I know thay will screw with angles, etc..

I have a few more things to do before I can wheel....I need to finish my steering and brakes on the truck - AND - the wife said no more wheeling until the cabinents are in at the cabin.
Anyone driving near Haymarket, VA on the way down? I have a bumper I need to have picked up - I'll pay your gas + beer money (no Mr. Bascom - I don't think I can pay all your beer money, just some of it) ![]() bk __________________ KJ4HFL 76fj40 * 77fj55 * 85fj60 * 00uzj100 * 90Hilux Crew Cab (ex)Diesel * 81hj47 * 07Tundra 5.7DC "I spend most of my money on beer, land cruisers, and women...the rest I just waste" - Curran |

I'll be driving through Haymarket, but it will be pretty early. Around 7:30 or so, depending on the meeting time in H-burg we decide on. Will whoever has the bumper be awake on a Saturday morning?
And will it fit in the back of my 40? Felix |

I’m pretty sure I know where this Sheetz is. Is this the one in H-burg on 33 just west of 81? |

I would like to make it, but somehow I lost my brake master cylinder cap. I have been trying to find a replacement today but no luck. I have checked all the local parts stores, Toyota parts depts, etc, but it sounds like I can't get one until next week. Does anyone out there have one I can buy? I need the large front one for a '73. I think they were the same size from '70-'80.
If not I guess I will have to pass this time. __________________ 1973 FJ40 - ARB Locked F/R, Staun Internal Beadlocks, OME Lift, 4 speed tranny - 3 speed transfer, silly slow |

1) Don't eat the tomato sandwiches at Sheetz or you may be replacing the two "ee's" with an "i". 2) Second Mountain was the first wheeling trip I ever took back when I lived in VA. It was raining and there had been a lot of snow in previous weeks. We got to the last half mail of the trail on the north side of the hill, and ran into 2 feet of rain soaked snow (and for some reason decided to go forward). It took 7 hours to get back off the trail. Those were in my stock Cherokee days. It's a very easy trail without the snow issue...lots of fun with the snow. Beer Money
BK,
It might be worth the trip just to get some beer money from you. How about another keg like you did at CMCC? Steering, who needs steering when you've got a perfectly good ratchet strap? __________________ '76 FJ-40 with a Hula Girl on the dash for me and a '65 FJ-45 LPB for the wife. Life is good. |

jcj, yeah that's the Sheetz I've got in mind.
I'll call the forest service tomorrow to check on any trail closings. Rick, that sucks about the cap. I'll see if anyone I know has a spare. Felix |

I drive between H-burg and Chantilly at least three days a week. I imagine that i can fit a bumper in the back of the Lumina. Shoot me a e-mail thru the forum or call my cell 540-250-2113 let me know. As far as the trail ride I'm gonna have to opt-out again I'm about 2/3 done with paint and the truck is in a few hundred pieces AGAIN. Cold weather is a bitch for painting btw. (and no garage) It ALSO happens to be December graduation and an old roomate from Radford is graduating...so... I dont think ill be in any shape to walk much less drive until sunday after noon. Be safe, weather seems to be nasty thru friday afternoon and looks like its gonna be a cold one! About a year ago they closed most of Kephart, which was one of the best trails still open. Second Mountain is sometimes closed at the gate at the bottom because of trail access disputes with the local residents, but it can be accessed from the top where it meets with Dictum, Gauley Ridge, etc. From what I've seen lately, everything else should be open. I have a bunch of stuff to do this weekend, otherwise I'd head down for the day. __________________ '88 Toyota. Inchworm dual cases. Spooled rear. Dents. |
