Expedition Trophy 2005: FZJ80 Wins!

The first annual Expedition Trophy was just a few weeks ago, and included technical driving tasks, high-speed closed course sand track and a navigation challenge (12 waypoints in 90 minutes).

IH8MUD member Scott Jensen won the inaugural event in his sweet FZJ80. He actually won both driving sections to clinch the victory over 18 other vehicles.

Chuck, the owner of a Toyota Tacoma came in second overall and first in the navigation challenge.

Ed, in his killer FJ40 with roof tent came in third place overall and second in the technical driving section and third in the navigation.

We had numerous Toyotas, Land Rovers, Isuzus, Jeeps and Suzukis in attendance.

Here are the pictures:

Scott, that looks great.

I think I'd enjoy doing that next year. My one comment on the pics is why is he wearing gloves with the tarantula? They're like puppies!

Thanks, it would be great to have you along.

Chuck is a wildlife biologist (great guy to have along on a trip). He spend about 10 minutes talking about the beast, their venom, etc. I guess they are a little more aggressive and they can bite during the annual trek to find a mate.

Scott, just an FYI - the link on the photos page for my website points to Jeff's pics.

In the meantime, HERE is a link to my pics.

Man, that was a fantastic event!

Baja - that cabin in photo 66 is amazing. Talk about making you think about "checking" out and living off the land. Man, this SoCal craziness is getting to me...
