Hey yall I am stuck in VA.

Yeah I know sucks for yall virginians. Anyway just seeing if anyone can point me in the right direction to some offroading trails. I am at Hampden-Sydney College which is in Farmville VA. I am about 1 hour from Richmond if that helps. I have been wheelin once at some local trails at the twin lakes state park but they were pretty weak. Any suggestions would be great. I would rather not drive more than 3 hours to go to them. I heard a lot about george washington state park and I don't know what that is about or where it is. So any info is greatly appreciated because I am a GA boy stuck in VA. Thanks!

Josh

See my PM-there is lots of mud, but not much else. Use your 80 to pull people out of ditches when those ice storms hit.

Congrats on actually locating Hampden-Sydney. And you're now spelling it correctly too

No, I have nothing to contribute in the way of answering your question -- just thought I'd flip a little crap your way for old times sake.

There are mild trails at GWNF (Second Mountain, Dictum, Long Run Road, Kephardt). You can find them on a DeLorme Gazeteer off of Hwy 33 west of Harrisonburg. Peters Mill is a dirt road maintained by Porche so Cayene drivers can do some "REAL" wheeling. There are supposed to be trails around Bedford but I don't have any details.

If you want harder trails, you'll have to go to a Big Dogs event at Gore, or go to Rausch Creek or Paragon in PA. There are also a couple of trails near Madison. Ask Lance Williams of Iron Pig since his family has a farm in Farmville.

Josh,

You can read up on local VA trails, as well as those in NC and PA, on my club's website under "Trail Rides:"

There are also links to the photo albums to see what the trails look like too.

LOL....

First you posted chat in tech, now you're posting chat in the "Trails-Events-Expeditions" section....

Spelling your college right? Posting in the wrong section?(although better than chat in Tech)....

Looks the edumakashun has done wonders, and it has only been a short time.

Shoe Creek and Big levels are pretty close to you. They are mild trails but have some fun spots. If you are looking for somthing changelling, Check out Heather and Chris at Crozet (http://www.mountainjam4x4.com) Also the Virgina 4 wheelers association (http://www.va4wda.org/)is having a big event in Nelson County this month (same location as Camp J**P). All this is probably within 1 hour from Farmville.

Let me know if you want more detail or directions.

At least "Stuck in VA" would moderately insinuate that you "may" be stuck in a Vagina.

Disgracing my home state... Hopfully you'll only be there temporarly. There is no George Washington state park either. It's a national forest that happens to be the largest east of the mississippi Hopefully your signed up for geography 101 so you can find it Good luck

Didn't you ask this same question earlier?
Go check out Rapidan. It's not too far from you. Terrrain can vary dramatically depending on recent rainfall. I've seen rather substantial body damage each time I visited but there is always an easy line if you want/need it. If you talk to the local kids on 4 wheelers they will tell you about a ton of trails. And the locals say there is some good fly fishing as well.

A bunch of use are getting together the weekend of the 24th. GWNF is fairly mild. There are a bunh of trails in/ around Crozet.
check this thread out:
http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=66716

My sister-in-law is at Longwood. Just remeber to study, kind of hard to do sometimes.

I am in Richmond. Only about an hour. If you need a good shop I know an excellent Toyota shop here.
If you need a spot to wrench drop me a line. I have a large driveway, shit load of tools, air comopressor, blaa, blaa, welder

Check out Tidewater's web site for info on the VA4WDA trail ride at Oakridge. It is not too far from you. I went to Longwood in the early 90's. There used to be some power line to go wheel on but that was about it. There was a State Forest office on Main st that may have maps of local trails. Another option would be check out one of the local clubs in that area. go to Va4wda.org for a complete list of clubs in the state and their local contacts.
