Copper Canyon, August 8-13 or so

Is anyone interested in doing a run through the Copper Canyon in Mexico? Check out Scott Brady's writeup http://forum.ih8mud.com/trails-events-expeditions/40338-copper-canyon-expedition-part-2-satevo-cerocahui.html I don't plan on being too extreme due to the remote location but I am looking for folks interested in going. I've also posted here http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/default.aspx?f=9&m=19098

August may be a real warm time of year, do you know the temps for the region? I may be interested if the temps are not in the extreme range. this old AK boy, does not like high temps. later robbie

Not to add to the negativity, but thunderstorms and flashfloods would also be a problem at that time.

I am aware that it is not the "ideal" time of the year. Temps in the bottom of the barrancos will be high but that's what A/C is for!! Thunderstorms and flash floods will definitely need to be considered as we travel near the rivers. I've got NO desire to try any extreme river crossings that far from help anyways.

That's the only window of opportunity that I have as I work at a school in Guatemala and I pass through northern Mexico during the American school system summer vacation (June-August).

There is a benefit though as travelling when it's not the ideal time reduces the tourist count

"Robbie" if you're interested I'll be through Denver heading north around June 19 and we could talk about the proposed trip then.

Lets talk when you are in denver. Do you just have a lay over from a flight or is this a stay for a couple of days? Any how I sure I can make an arrangement to meet you for a beer or two and talk about your plans. later robbie

We're driving up from Guatemala with the BJ60!! We'll be in Denver area for a couple of days around June 19. I've got relatives in Arvada and I need to get some parts for my kids FJ55 also.
PM me a phone number and/or e-mail to get ahold of you when we're there.

I'm pretty interested in this trip as well but it will come down to the specific dates whether I can do it or not.

And cruiser_guy, check these guys out if you're not familiar with them - might have some goodies for your fj55 (http://www.classiccruisers.com/).

Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the link to Classic Cruisers. I'll put them on the "to stop by at" list. We'll be in the LA area at the end of July/first week of August if you need further convincing to head out to Copper Canyon!

c-g, I definitely don't need any convincing to go, I am already willing - it's just my annoying job! If the dates work out I will be in.

I lived in Co Spngs and owned a 1982 FJ60 so I knew the Salida place pretty well. A big plus, at least for me, was the great atmosphere in Salida. We always made long weekends out of it - mt biking, white water on the upper Arkansas, hot springs at the base of the front range, and a good 4wd trip up Mt Antero. Pretty decent artists community there too. Jeez I'm starting to miss it...

Drop me a line when you're out here in July. Hopefully the dates will be firmer by then.
Mike
