December 12th
December 12, 2004
You are all invited to head up to Gorman for some winter time fun. The plan is this: meet at Jack in the Box, in Gorman around 8:30- 9:00 am head into the park warm up your 4x4 skills. Then head up Mille j**p trail. Were we go from there no one knows, but we will have fun.
Reasons to go,
1) Your Land Cruiser has not been off road since Surf n Turf
2) You just finished finals at school.
3) You have nothing better to do then hope that on the way to the mail you will get to use your locker.
4) The Raiders are way out of play off contention
5) Your wife/girlfriend/sig other is getting on your nerves and you need a break.
6) You missed Surf n Turf because your Land Cruiser broke down/ not ready …..
Requirements to go,
1) No Door or Top will be allowed on this trip. OK, 80’s guys here is your chance to take off the doors.
2) Top and Door are allowed if you are a wimp, or over the age of 22.
3) The want and need to have Fun
This event is being put on by the YLCCM , Young Land Cruisers of Costa Mesa.
Questions or suggestions rogers_ian@yahoo.com

To Gorman!
YLCCM it is Ian....you took the kitchen convo and developed it, I see. Count me in for Gorman, doors and roof ON, heater ON, Towing your 40 out the mud with ease. That's how this 80 does it! Good lookin out though, look forward to it and hope a few others join in and share their knowledge and experience with us "young" ones.

Damn - why are all the fun things planned on weekends that I have commitments with my scout troop? Skipped scouts for SNT, but probably can't for this one. Sounds like fun tho. One day trip? Stock rigs ok? Just curious.

Will need to check the calendar but it sounds interesting - never been to Gorman. Also, I work in Costa Mesa but am no longer considered "young" (except by retirees) so I'm not sure of my eligibility.

Never done this trail. Could a stock rig do it...or more specifically, a 60 with 31s?
It wouldn't hurt my ego to get pulled out a few times either....

a stock 60 with 31 will be fine, and you would maybe need to be pulled out if you did something stupid in the mud at the bottom in goman

Sounds good to me.
I'm trying to stir up some more local interest to accompany me on the 2.5 hour trip from the coast. Sounds like Matador has already swallowed the hook.
To be honest, I'm not young anymore. At my last birthday I told my wife to think of it as being married to two 25 year olds.
I can leave the sunroof open on the FZJ80 or roll the windows down on the FJ60 and promise to leave the heater off if it helps.

Gorman is about 50 miles North of Los Angeles right by the 210 and 5 freeway about 290 from SF if my guess is correct. Being a newer LC80 enthusiast I welcome the experience and knowledge, and I'm always looking to learn. I'll be running a Stock 80, no lockers. BRING THE SCOUTs aren't the outdoor and nature what they are all about? They can build the fire!
A few of Us will probably meeting for breakfast earlier in the morning before we head out for the day.
Mid December, I'm keeping my windows and sunroof closed, let the 40s enjoy the frost haha. Ian I'd put the roof on at least brother...

So as I firm up commitment to this shin-dig, I was wondering if anyone has some pics or links to pics of what the trail(s) look like. Just trying to get an idea of what's in store...
rogers - will have to take you up on that beer but you're not allowed to kick my tires )

This is a great trail because it offers some hard stuff but also has by-passes for the more stock rigs on a 1 to 5 i would rate it a 2 because you will need to have good lines, or follow someone that dose.

Jim, thanks for the links. I actually stumbled onto the same ones after I posted. The trip photos of the Range Rover loosing its rear axle was pretty entertaining. When you gonna post your report on Surf-n-Turf? It was amazing, thanks again. But back to this thread, my reason for wanting to know the trail conditions was to decide on if the all-terrains would do or if it would warrant the xzl's. Plus I really wanted to bring my daughter on this one as gunner and wanted to know how "scenic" it was.

No worries Eric, it only scrapes one side at a time if you do it right.
Only the first ones hurt.

I shed a tear or 5 when I got my first scratches, just ask "RogersFJ40"....Now I look at them as battle wounds, cool to show off at least that make me feel a little better about them. PismoJIm's right though one side at a time....my 80 is blk so they show up real nice (Turtle wax with the crayon wax stick takes away all the light scratches some of the deeper ones).

hey E9999, just make sure i'm in front of you. My big ass truck is at least 6" wider than probably all the other rigs on the trail so i might knock the brush down and out of the way!
My girl(" Hellion") lives for the brush! It's like a bath to her paintjob, you know, to get rid of all the built up mud and road grime! I haven't washed her since i've owned her! - and thats been 11 months!

SEth,
You are Rogersfj40 share that trait, although his truck is not big he tends to knock down brush and small trees along the way.
