make sure you call the Ranger Station...as of today the Lockwood trail was closed due to recent snow. Call 661-245-3731
I made the mistake last year of planning an outing and not checking....felt a bit stupid when we arrived to find a locked gate. __________________ '96 FZJ80, locked, slee 4", 315's, 4:88's, supercharged, Ammo tie rods, dual battery, snorked, slee sliders, ARB/Link mod front, Kaymar/link mod rear, misc random mods |

Will definitely check before we head out. Are you going to be able to make it out with us D (assuming it's open)?

Anyone care to chime in on a back-up plan if this trail is closed? I personally would love to get into some snow, would make my daughter pretty jacked too.

If we go in from the Frazier Park side [that's right, I said 'we'] there are still a lot of places to get into before running into locked gates. Still, a call to the ranger on the north side trails is also a good idea. West Frazier Mine Road, Lockwood Valley, etc.

I'm not going to be able to make it on 12/12 however I am planning to head up there Sunday 12/5 (can you say thread hijack) If it's closed then maybe head up to Arrowhead along the Cleghorn ridge, Pilot Rock, Pinnacles, etc. Email me at deeeja@aol.com if you want to go 12/5.
BTW still haven't decided if I'll take the Cruiser or the Mini....Cruiser has locking diffs and ground clearance....Mini has heated seats and a supercharger.... __________________ '96 FZJ80, locked, slee 4", 315's, 4:88's, supercharged, Ammo tie rods, dual battery, snorked, slee sliders, ARB/Link mod front, Kaymar/link mod rear, misc random mods |

Count me in for this weekend w/ Silvercruiser. I'll most likely be in for the 12th as well... Do we have a count on how many may attend the 12th? Just wondering, ran it on a night run w/ LA TLCA, 20 rigs or so and it took 4+ Hrs... Could be a long run with a large group or inexperienced.

I was in that area Sunday 11/28. Met a bunch of CJ's and other J**ps at the trailhead for Lockwood but I was "discouraged" from tagging along. I did stop at the ranger station and they told me all of the gates are open from the Lockwood trailhead to the top of Alamo Mt loop. There is not really any snow to speak of (just a little bit on the north slopes in the shadows) but there is a lot of ice and frost. I did venture to the top of Frazier Mt (8000 ft) via 8N12, it was 22 F with a 35 MPH NW wind. I'ed like to join you folks on Dec 12. I'am a new FJ62 cruizer owner but have 10+ yrs experience with my G***d C****kee. My rig has EMU, 31x10.5 BFG AT's, a bull bar, winch, Kaymar rear, but open diffs (not for long!!)

Hello to all Gorman goers
As you may or may not know I tried to go pre-run the trail this Sunday with little to no success it was snowing and raining. So the rangers closed the trail for safety, this was a good thing as I could imagine the traction problems that we would of seen in the snow. But on to this weekend, I will be calling the ranger and checking the weather report all week to make sure that we can go. In doing so will give a ‘Go, No Go’ signal here by Friday at 3:45pm. I would also like to get a roll call going so that I know how many people to expect, please e-mail me at rogers_ian@yahoo.com include your phone number so if there are any last second changes I will be able to let you know. If you are coming from out of the area and are thinking about camping there is a lot of room in Hungry Valley OHV Park .You will have to enter the park at Smoke Bear Rd, the Gorman entrance in closed. I would like to change the meeting place to Flying J’s truck stop at the Frazier Park exit. Still at 9am. Hope to see you all there Ian Rogers p.s. If you put a top in I under stand, when the ¼” of ice in the windscreen would not come off I thought, ‘I think I should of put on the doors.’ __________________ TLCA #14752, L.A. right dont drive into it. I spent 3hr cleaning my rig, and 3 more trying to get the mud out of my drum brakes. I think thats the last mud/clay that my fj40 will see for sum time. but in the heat of it i would do it agin.

Man, Jim you Central Coast guys are tough. I've been waffling due to Christmas and work but I'll be damned if the NorCal group continues to make SoCal look like a bunch of surfing, suntanning wimps. I guess it'll be worth it just to see what Seth breaks, right? See you there too.

Hey Guys,
Looks like I will also tag along on the trip.................Now, currently it is rain tonight, and possibly tomorrow, followed by sunny days according to those very accurate weather The only problem I foresee is that the Miller Jeep Trail will be closed due to snow / winter..............and I don't think they will open for the weekend. What is the current plan - playing around at the OHV park? The "Los Angeles County Cruiser" club meeting is tonight, and our pres lives in Fraizer Park, and I will get the up to date info tonight on the general area. There are a few other trails in that area, that would probably have snow (and of course MUD!) for a back-up plan. i just called at 1pm and the trail was still closed, but they said that it was sunny and they thought it would be open by the 10th. So, lets hope for Sun and no more rain. I would like some help with a backup/alternatives. either e-mail me or post them.

OK, so what's the final plan?
This Miller Heep Trail thing? If so, doable for a stock not-slidered locked good tires rig? Without scraping my Moonglow????? (umm, maybe should take the 03 while the wife is not looking....? )Anybody would take a passenger if the trail is too rough for my ?E __________________ '97: 88K, 3xlock, Custom HD roo bar for sale, 285 MT/Rs on steelies, Hanna sliders, 851+1.5"/863/N73/N74E/SD24, ARB bull with M12, Kaymar with duals, Kaymar rack, Slee TC skid, 2m/440, more stuff, loose nut behind the wheel!) OK, had a look at some trail photos on the web. Plenty out there.
Brush does not look too bad actually, but some ledges, ruts, big rocks and all. Found some cute photos of LRs losing their axles etc. LRs, of course.... Even for the mighty LC, it does seem like no slider would be a recipe for potential $$ damage, though. Can't afford that right now, so I may opt to go for a ride along the first time to see what it's like since I'm a complete newb at more than your basic dirt road and I would probably screw up and end up with more $$ repair than sliders cost . Eh, this may actually be enough to convince me to get the dang sliders... Anybody willing to take a passenger / spotter if it's not too much trouble? (May bring a 6pack even, if you promise not to indulge before the trail.... )Btw, here is a good site I found with info on various trails: http://4wheeldrive.about.com/od/socaltrails/ look under Lockwood/Miller. Has coordinates, map etc. E __________________ '97: 88K, 3xlock, Custom HD roo bar fo |
