Badlands Offroad Park December 4th
I have yet to wheel this season so I am heading down to the Badlands on the fourth of December. I think it is the Toys for Tots weekend but not sure yet. Hoping to get there Saturday early and run as long as the leg lasts or till something breaks! I haven't abused it all summer so something has to go. I actually just tossed a soft top on in case the weather turns to crap. My guess is that top won't last the weekend without getting torn or bent up from the trees and rocks.
Hope some of you can make the trip. Look here for location if needed: www.badlandsoffroad.com Goebs __________________ 71 fj55, 72 fj40, 75 fj40, 76 fj40, all sucking my wallet dry... This recession doesn't help either! |

Wouldn't mind going down to watch and maybe wheel a bit. That's a good deadline to have the 40 Attica ready, but the way my weekends are going, it's looking more like I'll need x-mas break to make real progress.
Hey, Goebs, I got a JD2 of my own now. I currently just have a 1.5 x 5.5 die, but if you need it, you're welcome to borrow it. __________________ War Pig and the nameless 45lv "Don't you know, Stan, it's always between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich." |

Woody and Gumby,
Needless to say it would be very cool to wheel with you guys. Hope you both can make it. I am hoping to do most of the trails there so the 80 might be good for this trip. I will be on the rocks but only if the leg has some strength by then. I met a bud from Chicago that has a nice 40 that has yet to wheel. I am hoping he chimes in and heads south with us. Atleast if the leg can't take much driving, he can do some driving! As for the bender, I am thinking of getting the die that will allow me to bend the square stock.....I feel the need to a rack on the wagon, along with the ladder. Might be a lame idea but it's a thought! Hope you both can make it. Get wrenching! I will be busy doing the same. My 40 is dead as a door nail as we speak. The tank is full of rust and crap so that has to be stripped, dipped and sealed. Got some work do do....off to do it~! Anyone heading down for "toys for tot's" 4th of Dec?
Time for me to plan to head either to the Badlands or northern Wisc. Anyone heading down to the Badlands to play on the 4th of Dec.? If not, I may just head north to McCaslin and play up there and at our small rock strewn mess of a trail in Wabeno.
Let me know if anyone might be up for Badlands.. Goebs __________________ 71 fj55, 72 fj40, 75 fj40, 76 fj40, all sucking my wallet dry... This recession doesn't help either! |

Hey all:
Been reading up about the Badlands, and I was wondering if this would be a good place for a lesser experienced driver to go? I'd be bringing basically a stock 97 with lockers, no running boards, and with MT/R's? This is relatively close (ie: within the same time zone) and it sounds like a fun place to wheel from the info. on the website. I've always wanted to ride with more experienced guys, so I figure this might be a good place for me. Thanks for your input. You'll find a wide range of trails and rigs at the Badlands....Green is mostly wagonable, but sliders are highly recommended...good ones too, none of those Manik POS things, right Gumby? Orange is VERY tight for a wagon without damage, but I've seen it done.
Pink has areas as well that can be done, and most of the stupid stuff (which is what I run) can be bypassed. Gumbster, ya bringing the morph40 or the grocery getter? __________________ Brian 'woody' Swearingen 1974 FJ40 'The Raisin' - Pitbull Rockers, 30-spline Longfields, SOA - 1/4 ellip 1996 FZJ80 'Gretchen' - MetalTech, ARB, OME, IPOR, 4x4Labs 2003 2500HD Duramax - Edge/Juice/Attitude, 285 Nitto Terra Grapplers, 4" exhaust |

Thanks for the info. Woody...
I don't have any sliders at all...at least not yet. Since funds are at a premium these days, I'm slowly working my way up with mods. First though, I'm trying to baseline the whole vehicle as much as possible. Spending most of my cash on that. So in the end, it looks like Badlands might not be the best place for a stock rig? without much damage... Gumbster needs to pipe in, since he's wagon'd the place before....considering it's a rare trip to the Badlands were I don't end up on my lid, I'm probably not qualified to discuss the "normal" trails...lol

Sorry, I was off popply-squappin'. Mocking up a winch bumper for the 40. I'm resolved to driving it today. I don't think it'll be ready to go wheeling in Dec, but maybe. I'll see if I can arrainge a trailer. Even if it is, I suspect I will break it fairly quick and go wheel the 80. There are just too many variables since it will be the first time since it was a basket case long long ago.
The Badlands is OK for wagons, but tight on the trails. You can have fun in the quarry while Woody and Goebs run the serious carnage shit. Green will kill stock running boards and junky Manik crap. ( , Woody) Serious sliders are a good idea. I suspect you could run without anything, but you will scrape your rockers and destroy you exhaust. Lots of breakovers that the 80 has too much wheelbase for.Pink is fun, but you will run a lot of bypasses and probably get pulled through some of those. The mudhole trail can be OK too, depends on the 4 wheelers. In Dec. it should be OK. Lots of stinky mud and tight trails. If it was just a bunch of stockish wagons, I would suggest that at some point, but I'm sure it's pretty boring for the hardcore rigs. If we could round up a group that wanted to go, we could do that. We could do that when C takes her rig over full time and Woody is left with his new 80 to wheel. With any of the trails you can expect pinstripes. Unless you know the corners of your truck and pay attention every second you will probably loose a flare or two. Stock bumper corners might get damaged as well. Take your spare out and put it inside and strap it down well. Steel just came. I got 160' of tube on the floor that's about to become parts. Shoot me a PM if you have more concerns. __________________ War Pig and the nameless 45lv "Don't you know, Stan, it's always between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich." |

Gumby: Thanks for your explanations of the trails etc. I think this might be a good one for me to come out too (I live in Ohio) see that it isn't really that far away...and I have good friends in Batavia (outside of Shytown) whom I can see too--two birds, one stone...er, one truck. Now, if I can only get Saturday the 4th off. Quote:
So how many of us are seriously interested in this? Gumby--I'll PM you with some more detailed Q's today (Thursday). Thanks much. best. -onur Akron, OH __________________ 1997 FZJ80 with and without lots of stuff. 2001 Honda Accord 3.0L V6 VTEC Coupe EX. __________________________________________ Originally Posted by cruiserdan in response to Hilux: "Unlike you, Mel Gibson is a bad dude. arrive Friday evening...wheel Sat, not positive on Sun yet, but probably stay the weekend. Not sure on travel arrangements, we have possibly 4-8 rigs from around here coming down....who knows tho. I'm planning a tent right now tho, too lazy to deal with the Lemon...
I plan to rebuild my truck quite a bit this winter, and will need some major damage to assist in justifying those expenses....lol __________________ Brian 'woody' Swearingen 1974 FJ40 'The Raisin' - Pitbull Rockers, 30-spline Longfields, SOA - 1/4 ellip 1996 FZJ80 'Gretchen' - MetalTech, ARB, OME, IPOR, 4x4Labs 2003 2500HD Duramax - Edge/Juice/Attitude, 285 Nitto Terra Grapplers, 4" exhaust |

would there be room to ride along with someone? My 45 project is so far from being finished that it isn't even funny. I'd come down on Saturday morning, and head home Sat evening. Thanks, Luke
Never mind- my better half informed me that we have a wedding to go to that day. Luke __________________ Quote:

Woody,
Just fill me in as the time get's closer. I still may drag out the rv, minus the water-shower, and head down friday eve. If that is the case, I may have a bed for you. I have one bud going right now and am waiting for chitown (rob) to answer as to whether or not he is going to make the trip. I am planning on staying at the Badlands Campground if that is where you guys are staying. I am looking forward to it, as it will be the first trip this year. What time will you be crossing the border friday? I might have to join the convoy right below the wisc line. Sounds like a good sized group is forming. Counting the days..... I am thinking beer and steaks saturday eve. If there is a head count, I may have to be the dinner and beer sponsor. My way of thanking Woody for keeping up with this damn IH8MUD thing! I'm totally interested in coming to this and am planning on doing so.
I just have to wait till this Sunday or so before I commit as I have to see if my work schedule permits a Sunday gig in Attica. I'd probably get there Saturday morning for a day of wheeling and then head to the Chicago area for some sleep Saturday night and return to Ohio on Sunday AM (I can only spare one day). But I'd be willing to stay the evening part and hang out and meet people as this is my first real Cruiser gig... Seeing as this might be my first Cruiser trip, have a few questions: I'd be bringing a girlfriend unit--are these allowed? I'd also be bringing a dog--are these allowed (and/or not allowed/recommended)? Thanks for the input guys. I'm really quite excited and hopefully this will pan out. girlfriends are most welcome...this is a rare ride for me in that my wife is NOT attending....
she drives better than I do anyways.... Not positive on pets....I "believe" the Badlands allows them, but it would be worth a call to be sure. We have our cat along most trips, but he never leaves the Lemon. __________________ Brian 'woody' Swearingen 1974 FJ40 'The Raisin' - Pitbull Rockers, 30-spline Longfields, SOA - 1/4 ellip 1996 FZJ80 'Gretchen' - MetalTech, ARB, OME, IPOR, 4x4Labs 2003 2500HD Duramax - Edge/Juice/Attitude, 285 Nitto Terra Grapplers, 4" exhaust |

Well, I just found out that I WILL be able to make this trip for Dec. 4th. YEah!!! Really psyched for this. I assume all logisitics will be mapped out as time gets closer, right? This is my first wheeling adventure, so I'm stoked to meet people and really use the rig for what it was made for. What types of pre-wheeling things should I do? Fluids, etc.? Any help is appreciated. Onur,
Leave the dog at home for your first trip out. I don't know about yours, but mine doesn't appreciate going airborn in the cargo area while wheelin! Besides, you'll be tooo busy to have to deal with a pup and a chickie! After this trip, you'll have a good idea whether or not you wanna bring the pup along the next time.Ali Quote:
