I'm planning on going. Gumby, let me know the plans for departure if you're leaving on Sat. I'll have to follow you just so I can pick up falling parts from your rigs!!! I invited a stock Rubi to come along with me. I'll be leaving early Sat am from Bolinbrook (I-55 and I-355).

If anyone has a set of Aisin hubs, I'll buy them from you if you bring them down to the park!

hey guys--

Looks like we have a really nice sized group going on the 4th.

Since my truch is pretty much stock, I hope you guys don't mind if I get some ideas on what to do to the 80, mod-wise.

I'll also probably have lots o questions now that I have ya in person rather than in e-form.

This is gonna be great. Best to you all.

Ali, thanks for the heads up on this. I'll be going down as well, in my 4Runner. There's no cheap motel's nearby, so I'll probably go early Sat morning (leaving NW Chicago suburbs at 5am), and return that night. Unless (hint hint) someone has some nice evening dinner plans either Fri or Sat, like sittin' around and shootin' the shiite.

Isn't Attica Campground, and other campgrounds, closed for the season, Brian?

Beno/Onur, remember to have a 0.5" dia hole somewhere for the flag mount, or think seriously about how to firmly attach it. A few poorly-though-out zip ties, and you'll be hopping in and out of your rig all day fixing it. No fun.

Kenton:

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah--I almost forgot about that looking back now. I guess the stock bumpers really don't have too many places for something like this. I might just drill a hole up front before I come and use that. I'll eventually get a bumper/ARB ($$$$$$) but for now a hole will probably do for these one day events.

I think some people in this thread were talking about bar-b-quing afterwards...though I have a feeling it will be cold in central IN by the beginning of December...Maybe there's a decent restaurant nearby where we can all convene and hang...

Any ideaa folks?

Right now I'm looking at a conference in Springfield Fri and Sat morning. I'll cut out of there as early as possible, possibly early enough to get to Attica before open, probably not. I'll either head back Saturday night, or stay. That part i can keep open. I'll bring a tent, but if i wuss out, I might head back to the hotel, although i could sleep in the 80. This conference kinda puts a kabosh on bringing the 40, but it sounds like I'll have wagons to wheel with and too many folks to really want to deal with field testing a new truck anyway.

there is a fine resturant in downtown Attica to hang out.

Is Badlands campground beer friendly? I had thought not.

Great avatar--Col. Klink (sp?) is one of my favorite TV charaters ever!!!

Nice.

I guess maybe we should play it by ear (read: play it by weather/campground logistics) for after wheeling activities.

And yeah, a few beers afterwards will be a treat indeed. Good call Gumby.

And yeah, it sounds as if there will indeed be a few (4+) wagons to play with...

Best.

Attica Camping is open year round - but it is stated no alcohol. Sommers is closed this late in the season. More irritatingly, if you aren't camping there, AC will charge you $5 to visit thru....THAT's the pisser....and might be a reason to NOT do a cookout on Sat evening.

On that note, Robies is the downtown hangout...good food, Brandi is the hottie bartender, and it's usually a good time. I'll wager that'll be the spot for Sat festivities.

There are a few hotels in the area, and none are expensive....IIRC, the one downtown is $50 a nite, and they give you a key for the front door so you can get back in....even has a "break" room where you can make your own meals.

I "believe" the gang I'm headed down with wants to wheel Sunday too, but it depends on how stupid we get on Sat, and on weather.

I'm trying to talk a co-worker with a motor home to go down Fri night and let me crash in it! He doesn't even have a 4x4! We'll see if he takes the bait. If so, then I'll head down Friday right after work from downtown Chicago. Unfortunately, I have to attend a Xmas party that evening, so I might to bolt out of there a little early.

looking forward to wheelin with you all!

so what is the final verdict? should I plan to bring the rv or just stay in the hotel? I was hoping to have a nice dinner and a few beers after wheelin saturday. i also heard the campground wwas closed but will call them now to confirm. sounds like a good group and should be a blast. sure hope the 40 hangs in there.

woody, any idea when you will cross the border in case i might tag along with my junk? i am still thinking of leaving friday if things work out.

My girlfriend are coming into Indiana--Friday night--and heading into Attica in the AM Saturday. I'm sort of waiting for the local guys/people who've been there before to make the meeting spot and time recommendations.

We're planning on hanging out after the runs...I think people were thinking of going to the bar in town with the hot bartender...he, he, he...maybe I'll have to leave the girlfriend unit at home....

Looking forward...sounds like a real good group and remember the present over $15 and get in free.

Best.

$15...was shoppin yesterday and couldn't remember that....off to the store again tomorrow...

dropped 2 leaves from each front spring pack (down to 7 each) and tossed in new motormount bushings. "should" be all set, but don't have my travel/arrive plans set as of yet. Rumor has it I have a Christmas dinner on Fri night, so it may be a REAL early arrival on Sat....but will know more later in the week.

BTW: Brandi and my wife get along great...sometimes having the missus along for that innocent "in" can be nice

Most likely, meeting in the park at 9:30a...gates open at 9, so that's sufficient time to get paid/toy'd, sign the park waiver, and unload any rigs.

Great--so 930am meeting time then in the park???

Everyone cool with that?

Just joking about the girlfriend unit at home thing...she's really into the cruiser and I told her some hardcore old skoolers are going to be there....she's more excited, I think, than I am....

See you all there.

Best.

ps: can I get a pole and flag at the park? If not, where can I get one before hand?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks Brian.

I'll check it out before hand and try to see where the hell to attach the thing. Worst case scenario I can drill into my front bumper and attach there. I'm going to get rid of it eventually and I'll probably crap it up good this weekend!!

sounds like meeting at the park at or around 9:30 saturday am in the plan. I am cool with that.
Looking forward to the bar now as much as the wheelin. I think I might stay at the campground friday eve just so I can wake up there and not be tired all day.

Have a safe trip all of you and see you there.

I'm thinking I'm going to skip all the sessions Saturday morning and shoot over there right after breakfast. Hopefully should get there before you all get out of the parking lot.

That's the spirit!!!!!

I'm sure a bunch of us will wait for stragglers...I gotta figure out a way to put the damn flag in my bumper...that's take forever I assume!!

So how many of each vehicle do we have:

40's
50's (?)
70's (?)
60's
80's
100's

Anyone have an idea?

This is shaping up nicely.

Best.

Waited till the last minute to post up on this ride. I plan to head over Saturday morning, A.J. will be along for the ride. I don't see any need to be there when the gates open (9:00 am) since I'm just a poser anyway! So I'll roll in closer to 10 (waiting for whatever heat the sun brings as it rises) and be ready to ride thereafter.

A few local guys are pondering the trip, one in an 80 that get along pretty well without trashing his daily driver. I need to call some others during the week and get them out as well.

Rob Steffey (UROC Team 911/Hot Pursuit) of Dan Rather fame is also slated to come over from Pittsburg. Last I heard he is hitting Indy Friday night and thinking he is gonna drag my ass out for some mischief. I may need the wife to come along and keep me outta trouble! He plans to wheel his rig which just came back from the SEMA show before he takes it home and starts on the winter repairs.

Anyway, since I have no windows/doors or any source of cab heat, I am not sure how much or where I will be wheeling. definatly avoiding (Woody's favorite) the muddy ass Orange Trail. Depends on who goes as I am always ready to just ride along in the woods with my buddies who are apparently "lots" smarter than I am, hehehe.

See ya all there!

Oh, Benji, You mentioned caravaning. I think there are faster ways than you coming thru Indy from Bloomingtom. I will be in my big Red Ford tow rig, tunes cranked up and likely exceeding the speed limit, but you are welcome to hook up if you like.

I got distracted typing my post and when I submitted it you guys had all posted up, hehehe. Beno, do NOT leave the gf at home, especially for the "non existent" hotty at the bar. Attica is a nice quaint little town certainly not known for their bars, or hotties!

If you are coming thru Indy friday night, and want to hook up, some of us (Steffeys') are celebrating a birthday and plan to go out here. Just assuming you both are 21, hehehe. Hit me at msmythe@iei.net and I'll guide ya towards a rendevous point and some affordable but clean hotels located near the route to Attica. Badlands is less than an hour from my front door, as long as I am driving my tow rig.

Hey SpaceGhost,

Yeah, your right, Indianapolis is out of the way. I think we'll prolly just leave from my house in the morn. There is a party friday night down the street from me, so beno if your up for it , we might make it to the Badlands around 9:30.

This is going to be a good time.

Sounds like everyone going wheelin saturday is going to be hung over! Count me in for that then...I guess I will have to get drunk at some bar the night before as well.

Mike, looking forward to wheelin with you again. Can't wait to see that junk in person. I am in awe at evey pic I see of it. And I sense it is going under the winter knife so perfect timing. Hung over or not, see you in the parkinglot at and around 9:30-now 10:00 saturday. By the way, we need to get Troy and Lisa to join us at the bar that night. You should push them for us. I'll call over there tomorrow aswell.

See you there.

Mike thanks for the offer--I really appeciate it!!

I've already hooked up meeting up with Benji at his place in Bloomington Friday night and we'll be rolling in Saturday morning--quite possibly hung over!! (but I'll be on the DL for this one, so more than likely I'll be un-hungover.).

Got home tonight and the girlfriend unit's work situation is getting rough and she might not be able to take a half day on Friday so we can leave for the weekend. Still trying hard to convince her to come....I think she will really like the adventure and meeting new peeps. Besides, she's a hottie (in a librarian sort of way) and I like having her with me!!

Benefits of girlfriend coming: friend in car, someone to laugh at me as a fawk up my truck, etc. Negatives: Have to bring the dog!

Benefits of my girlfriend not coming: she can watch the dog!!

In any event--Benji--see you Friday evening; rest of the crew, see you all Saturday 930-1000am ish.

Everyone drive safe and don't forget the $15 present to get in free!!

Best.
