There's a place in Ottumwa (not all that far from TCCC08) that has super tenderloins- like the size of a dinner plate. They also do mail order.....

Doc Thanks for the heads up With today and tommorow off we will finish getting the everything checked one more time , I am very happy with the way the 45 is running and its the little things we are working on now, rattles and shakes LOL The boys are sorting out all the parts I will be packing for those along the way, My bumper it bolted on ( 2x3 channel ) but it works one big item I will be working on will be adding some running lights for night driving I want to make sure I am seen parts, phone numbers, support, camp spots, I am sooooooo ready for this. I went out and bought another chip for the camera, I have had a few folks ( not so much here as at work but a few ) ask me the same questions over and over why, why, why, and you will never get the 45 done in time Well I have one thing to say Im going to Iowa via Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, home via Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and back to Calif. If the 45 and I dont make it it will not be for lack of trying and the support from my fellow mudders has been fantastic, Thanks to everyone Time to get to work 9 Days

Since you will be in South East Iowa.

Find Farmington on a Map. It is right on Highway 2 a little south of the TCC event. Go to the range station at Shimek State Forest and find Pond #3. The right hand turn off will be up the road about 500 yards further. Follow that road till it ends. Walk down to the pond and take the hiking trail around the Pond. I built the 1.5 mile trail as well as the 9 bridges as part of my Eagle Scout Project.

Find Montrose Iowa on the map. It is about 25 miles east of Farmington. That is the widest part of the Mississippi River. 1-Mile wide.

Drive up highway 61 about 10 miles to Fort Madison. You will pass Armor Dial. They make the Vienna sausages and canned meat there. You will also pass a large manufacturing building. It used to be where Fruehauf (sp?) trailers were made. Now the building is owned by Seamans. They make the large wind turbine blades that we see out here in Mojave and Palm Springs. That is were they are made.

Once you get to Fort Madison, drive all the way through town. (The town is 3 miles wide and 7 miles long and follows the river.) On the east side of town you will see a bridge that will take you to Illinois. That was the largest swing span bridges in existence still in use. There is a bigger one now, but it is in China. That bridge is the one that shipped a lot of the ordinance to WW2. The ordinance was built in Burlington, about 20 miles up the road. The other place they sent ordinance across the river was the Quad Cities. The Rock Island Arsenal is there.

When you are looking at the Bridge. To your right is the longest part of the Mississippi that the water runs east to west. To your left is a big building. That is the original Schaefer pen company. Mr. Schaefer lived in a modest house up on the hill behind the prison. After Shaeffer Pen was bought out by Bic, they still made all of the White Dot pens and the executive pens sets there (24 carrot gold) there.

All of this is an easy day trip in an FJ45. If you need anything while you ar in that area, my father runs a shop and can get you talken care of.

Drive safe.

Landcrusher,

I'm in the Wichita area (just north) and also heading to Tall Corn. I'll pm my # that way if you need anything, or don't want to drive 12 hours straight, you can get a hold of me. If you need a place to crash you guys will have to camp in the house, in the ac, I think there may be a no tent ordinance in town

But let me know, I'll probably be heading the same route as it looks like I may have two sets of rims mudshipping north.

Have a safe trip, be seeing ya in about a week.
