Wentworth Springs/Rubicon Trailhead 5-12

Just came back from the Rubicon Trail off of Ice House Rd.. My father and I had decided that we wanted to drive through the original trailhead of the Rubicon, which is Wentworth and exit in Loon Lake..We had never entered the trail through Wenthworth... It was beautiful to say the least, definitly one of the better trail runs I've had in awhile.

We got there not knowing the condition of the trail itself, although talking to some folks over at Pirate 4x4, they assured me that our locked 80's would have no problems running Wentworth to Loon Lake..We got there Monday night and decided to camp on familiar ground and drove to Loon Lake and spent the night on the slabs.. Man was it windy! Dry, but windy...Almost all the snow there was melted...

We woke up Tuesday morning and decided to go ahead and drive back to Ice House Rd and enter the Rubicon trail threw Wentworth... When we got there, my first observation was that there was NO snow on the trail, but there was water everywhere.. Not bad at all though.. The deepest water crossing was at Gerle Creek, which was really no problem at all with our 35's, well my 35's and ad's 37's...A rig with 33's would have no problems at all crossing the creek. All the other water crossing were more like large puddles, deepest ones were probably about a foot deep at the most...

We got to the campground that's right before the toughtest part of the trail to Loon Lake itself and had lunch.. Lunch was nothing special as we really didn't spend a lot of time preparing anything, we were a little eager to get back on the trail to duke it out with the Post Pile rock section..Up until this section, I hadn't locked any of the differential lockers, come to think of it, I hadn't even locked the transfer case..... All that was about to change, as the Post Pile rock section is a true taste of the real rubicon itself. On the rock section, there was 2 obvious hard obsticles where people before had made bypasses.. I wasen't sure of the legality of wheeling on these 2 bypasses, so we decided to run threw these 2 sections... I hate to say it, but I had to bust out the M12K on the last one.. Other than that it was a nice clean run. I might add that there was a nice amount of snow melt off/water running down the Rock section that added to the difficulty of these 2 obsticles....

We arrived at the slabs and decided to chill out a bit and just hung out... My father and I had so much fun threw the Wentworth Trailhead that we decided to divert from our original plan to exit on Loon Lake, and decided to run the Wentworth trail backwards...We had a blast....Well. that's basically it for the trail report, now some pics............
