3-8-08 snow run at custers crossing.

had a good run.
started off with the alternator clip coming loose on my toyota. That was a fight all day trying to keep it in there and the battery charging.
so I was the first break of the day and the first stuck.
The bad thing about making further then anyone else is that there is no one to pull you out. you can just see my truck by the tree line.

second and third stucks of the day..

Group shot.

pulling out two jeeps at the same time..

pictures, some stuck some not.

Mountain lion Kill. It drug it down this trail bout 50 yards and off into the trees.

Cool pics. I can't imagine snow much less driving in it. Looks like a great time.

Nice Pics. My wife and I were just there this weekend (Black Hills Area)...March 30th and 31st. Doing the tourist thing before the tourists flock in. The Black Hills area is a nice part of the country. Great Scenery. Seeing all the shops and stores closed at Keystone where we stayed was a little spooky. Custer State Park rocks. We drove around the loop...Only wished I had my cruiser to take on some dirt trails...

Really? I kept an eye out for local cruisers on the road...modded or otherwise. Only saw one with Colorado license plates...The area definetely calls for a 4 wheel drive rig...

sorry no cruisers here.
my wife and I both have mini trucks.
her daily is a rav 4.
mine is a dodge half ton.
everything we own is 4 wheel drive except the 46 dodge pickup.
we can be 60 degrees one day, go to bed and wake up to a foot or more of snow.
weather in the black hills is really strange.

got married, went into the church, sun shining, came out oh 3 hours later to over 8 inches of snow. had to change from car to 4x4 before we could leave for our honey moon at the local Black Forest Inn.
snow was getting over a foot deep before we got there, 15 miles away and about 1200 feet higher.

bam, the lion, killed it quick...
out in the woods last week end, heard a sound, not a growl.. but like a HUGE cat (snuff).

1st thought run for truck, 1/4 mile away.
2nd thought prey runs.
3rd thought, I have concealed carry, why don't I have my pistol.
nothing else to do. picked up a fist sized rock and walked back to truck.
I could hear snow foot step sounds up on the hill but never saw anything.
will carry in the woods from now on.
talked to the forest service and there is one living in my neighborhood also.
