The Rubicon is (on average) 4000 feet higher in elevation than Placerville. Subtract 3 degrees per thousand feet, 12 degrees cooler. Thursday temps will probablky be mid 70's and nights near 40.

It will be gorgeous though, just bring a jacket for the evenings.

FYI Ham's
The Rubicon UHF repeater went in and out last weekend (6-14) It has audio issues. I am unsure when it will be back in. The soonest it may go back in is Saturday 6-21. I will advise on 805 and here if sooner.

And FYI, several wheelers are building a permanent concrete structure at Spider so the UHF box will be available year round. (Once Frank has it repaired..)

I got lucky. Mark from Metal Tech invited me to come out and wheel with him after I got back from Iraq. It was freakin sweet!

Come on Doug, you know that Safety comes first on all TLCA events.

There was so much food in the fridge, it needed a little help keeping the nose on the ground going up $1M drop on the Norcal reverse run.

Seein Nolen and Woody was good. Having all the people who traveled for the event made it so much better. Lots of new people and new lines on the trail instead of just bouncing thru in the 40. Good job everyone.

Nolen was gonna drive a rig but the pillow he had brought for the seat got lost at airport.

Yep-I did too at the same spot. The reverse run is fairly conservative-we need to keep the trucks together for 7 days of Rubicon 4 wheeling. I had the winch spooled out and the truck up the ledge in less than 5 minutes. We camped within 100 yards of that spot on that beautiful ledge above Little Sluice.

That particular spot--Million Dollar Hill --- is pretty nasty this year. I'm sure I could have driven up the side shute, but given our desire to get to camp, the lateness of the hour and the wish not to damage the trucks, we winched over the lip at the top. Rick, though, blasted up and made it sans winch-kudos to him.

You missed a good one, Doug. Overall the trail had more difficult spots than last year, but Cadillac played nice for us on Saturday and it made for a smooth exit, and pleasant capper for our week on the trail. I hope you can make it next year.

For next years event- I'm working on getting each participant a commemorative John Evans bobblehead doll. Now, if I can just find a vendor to make that ginormous head....

Dan,
Was referring to the two knuckle stud issues that contributed to Sunday's exit strategy delays on Cadillac Hill.

But, you bring up a good point.
early stud pattern knuckles, taller-tires and Rubicon don't play nice together

without Gary, I'm sure delays would have been much LONGER

everyone else,
My buddy Craig told me a neat stud-fix trick:

Battery powered dremel or something similar
Cut simple slot into top of broken studs
Use regular screw-driver to remove studs
Apply propane-torch if you used red lock-tite on studs

thanks for the tip
