Hey Efuentes,

Great info! I was just in your home town of Los Mochis over Christmas. I even learned how to say Topolobampo correctly. We drove up to El Fuerte and took the train to the Copper Canyon overlook. Beautiful countryside, friendly people and great food. Had a great time!

A future overland 4x4 trip is starting to be planned! I will be following your blog! Do you have GPS waypoints for the roads to take? I talked to a number of people about driving from El Fuerte to Chihuahua, but most said you could not get there from here! I assume they were kidding, but more to the point; it is not easy as there are so many small roads to navigate. I'm sure local help would be needed along the route.

Thanks for posting, I look forward to hearing more.

The comments about not being able to get there now make sense.

Can't wait to hear more. This is why I'm getting my FJ-60 ready for overland trips. There is so much to explore and so little time!

WOW. You're officially bookmarked
Just asking: how would you rate a family of six (four adults and two tots) driving down there with a stock 80 in, say, March or April, from El Fuerte to Batopilas? Feasible?

March or April are the dry months, ideal for me would be late September, i´m kind of worried of having a single car crossing from Choix to Bahuchivo.

The are other people trying to go on the same dates, a group at least for that part of the route will be ideal.

Saludos

I'm looking to do this WITH a partner in late July/early August. I pass by every year but have yet to find someone interested enough to go.

But do you think driving through with a stock 80 sounds reasonable or wise?

I see no problem doing the route with a stock 80, just be sure is in sound mechanical condition, cars do take a beating.

Thanks for the additional information. Your blog is a regular stop for me now! I can't wait to return to Los Muchis & El Fuerte.

I'm busy talking friends into a future overland trip.

Do you know how many of the 9 main canyons of Las Barrancas are deeper than the Grand Canyon?

I made a quick comparison ...

Copper Canyon Gate: Las Barrancas comparison.
