WA to MA adventure!
Not sure if this belongs in the 60 section (mods feel free to move if it doesn't!) but I'm getting set for a trip from Seattle to Boston this December and I thought I'd try and plan ahead... I'll be traveling down I-84 to SLC, then across I-80 to Chicago and I-90 from there on out. The rig is an 87 BTJ60 I've recently put together (biodiesel!) and I'm hoping to find a few garages along the route in case I run into issue while on the road. Phone numbers and addresses would be key. Hopefully I'll never have to use them but rather safe than sorry, no? I'd also be interested in any biodiesel suppliers folks might know of along the route. Thanks in advance!

I grew up in CA and went to grad school in DC. I've driven back and forth around 10 times. Hwy 80 is quick, but it sure ain't pretty. Luckily, you'll miss out on the lovely stretch from Reno to SLC (which is much like I imagine the surface of the moon to be like . . . except there is probably more life on the moon). I was going to suggest you take a more northern route (90 or 94, although 90 East of the Black Hills might as well be called Iowa), but that may be rough in December. Going down to 70 is probably too far out of your way. If you can, get off the highway for a little bit. But once you start driving, you get to the point where you just want to get there. How long do you plan on taking? For me, 3 days was doable, but painful. Five days was good. The first time, 2 friends and I did a scenic route and took 3 weeks. But even that, it seemed like all we were doing is driving.
RE: Bio-diesel I would think there has to be a website somewhere listing bio-diesel sources (maybe algore.org? )

Have a safe trip! I just cruised from Chicago to Rhode Island in my new FJ60. Sweet trip. Just watch out for deer while driving through PA. I quit counting at 30+ carcuses on the road.

Thanks guys... I've done the I-90 route a bunch of times... big fan of the Badlands... but I'm a bit nervous about the weather during December. It looks like I'll be passing just south of Pocatello on 84... my plan is to hit SLC in a day, then shoot for Iowa City the following day. I'll be picking up a pal in Iowa to split the driving from there on out. We'll likely make southern VT the next day where I'll be dropping him off and crashing for the night, then heading on to Boston the next day... so... 3 long days, one short... only one night camping out in the cruiser w/ the dogs in SLC. I know I can pull 1k miles in a day if the Cruiser cooperates. There is a DOE website that has a trip planner: http://afdcmap2.nrel.gov/locator/RoutePane.asp
but in the past i've found it's not all that current and sometimes sends you way out of your way to get fuel (or worse, directs you to fuel up on limited access military installations). I thought I'd see if there were primary sources, ya know? It looks like Wyoming, Nebraska and upstate NY will be the only tough areas... might have to get that 40g tank after all... that should give me... about 1k/miles per fill up. __________________

Things are shaping up for a departure on the 16th... new exhaust went on today, emissions and licensing tomorrow (and maybe some seats...).

There are a lot of towns in western and upstate NY. I don't think you'll have too many fuel problems out there (during the day).
