Spill it already, unless it's Tequila, in which case you should not spill any.

The moment has arrived to reveal the secret ingredient. We are approximately 24 hours away from the grand event. We can't ask for better weather here at pole #6. Desertdude had the music going right before the sun went down. Seems like tomorrow will be a repeat of today.

Let's get to business. Participants have 90 minutes to come up with 2 savory dishes and one dessert. They will be judged on three categories: Taste, presentation and originality. Ten (10) points will be awarded for taste so make sure your dishes taste good, the judges will appreciate it! Make sure your two savory dishes are different enough from each other as originality plays an important role. While the dishes may have a similar theme, you want them to be unique. Five (5) points will be awarded for originality. Finally, make sure your dish looks good. You want to make a good impression on the judges. Five (5) points will be awarded in this category. The categories per each dish will be added, then all the points will be added. A perfect score would be 60 points. The team with the total highest score wins. Judges' decisions are final. There are 6 teams. Only 7" plates & bowls are allowed. Bowls are only meant for liquid type dishes. Please provide your own. Submit your $20 entry fee tomorrow before the event.

And now... the secret ingredient: Peppers!!!
You can use any member of the capsicum family in any way shape or form. The only requirement is that it has to play a starring role on each one of your the dishes. The rest is up to you.

Good luck and remember only one team is good enough to be called Sand Chef 07.

Sand Chef was a lot of fun. Of the seven teams that signed up for the competition, only one was not able to make it to the sand. All six teams that participated demonstrated an impressive array of culinary abilities. Peppers were the secret ingredient. All teams managed to create very original dishes, from very spicy ones to sweet tooth delights.
Judges had a very hard time making their decision. 90 minutes is the time allowed for the teams to cook. But the judges are pressed to test and determine how many points each one of the total of 15 dishes gets on each category.

Before I give let you know who won, I'd like to thank all those who participated. A big thanks to each team member and to each judge. To Desertdude and Snook for taking care of the audiovisuals. A huge thanks to PismoJim, without Surf & Turf there would be no Sand Chef.

The winners are:

3rd Member: 216 points
PMC: 232 points
Team Johnson: 242 points
Yopo 4x4: 244 points
3 Little Pigs: 264 Points

Next year I promise that I'll have a point breakdown of each team per dish. I wanted to do this year, but somehow the score cards were thrown in the fire.
Sorry about that. It won't happen again.

Regards

Alvaro

Thanks for the priveledge Alvaro!
And to the teams, great job! I know how hard it is cooking, but I gotta say; Judging this year was even harder.

Can't wait for next year!

Snailwagon, bring a porter, or stout. Thanks for getting my the liquid before I melted.

I did find that *not* being a judge was a much better way to go, actually. We just hung around Robbie and fought for the scraps he left after his tasting. Had more tasting of the good stuff than he did since he was being thoughtfully conservative...
