Rusted wrecked out trailer
I probally should have passed, he wanted 250.00 I offered 180.00 over the phone, after driving 2 hrs and seeing it in person I should have passed.
He said " What do you think?" Me " I wish I hadn't offered you 180.00" Him " Well what will you give me for it?" Me "$100.00" Him "$150.00" Me "140.00" Deal, I have a little remorse, but mostly cause its raining, and my garage is not ready for another "project" Can anyone ID this ? (Bantam I think) I called the local axle guy, he quoted me 110.00 to drill the hubs for 6 lug rims (with studs) I am not ready to be flammed, but flame away if you must. (I know its really rusted out) Tows great |

So 4hrs round trip & $140 later you have a trailer? Tarp it up in the back yard, put blocks under the tires, and it can wait til you have garage space & project time.
I'd call it good, unless you hated the trip. __________________ what shall I drive: Oct 84 tan fj60, 260k mi -- Dobermobile. 31" BFG ATs, Tuffy, SROR front bumper (to be installed) 2.5" BDS suspension, Rowlands storage panels Sept 84 tan fj60, 202k -- spare 85 Honda Accord, 110k -- commuter 91 Kawasaki Concours, 50k -- snowed in Oct 14, 08

Hell..there has to be $40 bucks worth of horses in there....lol
The metal is so good on those old trailers that rust (unless it's all the way through) wouldn't be a "deal killer" for me. Unless the pix are decieveing..I'd say good catch. __________________ Fat, Drunk and Stupid is no way to go through life Son.... |

Thanks, there was really nothing wrong with the trip. And I am pretty stoked on the trailer. Its different from other similar trailers I have seen. (I spent 45 min of the 4 hrs at trader joes, and 40 min waffling about buying the trailer)
The tailgate folds down, with chains. There are two reflectors on the back with two tail lights below them. The taillights have the "grill" around them. When I take a picture of the back it will expain it better than I can. http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/show...hp?photo=17319 looks like it this vintage 1945/6 Last edited by Jason YY; 09-20-08 at 09:51 PM. |

Get it sandblasted, throw a coat of primer over it and you'll feel alot better about it.
I'd say its a good find considering that these things are going for big bucks these days. We've all spent alot more cash on things alot more frivolous. __________________ Mike 98 TJ w/ Cdn M101 in tow ![]() 33 x 10.5 BFG MTs 4.88s with Super 35 & Detroit Locker 2 kids seats in back and the wife behind the wheel |

Looks like a civilian Bantam T3-C to me from what I can see.
three tie downs instead of the military 4 per side? 6 stake pockets in the upper inside part of the bed (three per side)? factory tailgate? side reinforcements where the tail light/lights are? no drains in the trailer floor? if yes to the above questions than it is most likely a T3-C. these were built post WWll from around late 1945 to the early 50's. good score for 140.00! |

Thats a good buy for that price,, even if the body was a total loss which it doesn't look that bad in the one picture.. You can buy new panels, if you need them,, but the metal was thick back then,, you can patch it up.. if the floor is real bad pull it and use a floor from a pickup bed.. As other have said,, blast it and primer it.. but use weldable primer.. keeps the flash rust away and you can weld through it..
Have fun,, it has just begun! |

by the time you blast it, paint it, re-drill the axles for the 6-lug pattern and put tires on it, you might have $400-500 into it.
ask me, that's well worth it for a trailer like this. i have a 51 willy's military trailer and i love it for the little odd jobs. nice score!

My trailer was pretty rusty and I had dipped by a Co. call Chem-Strip, see the before and after pictures. So blast it, dip it , in the end, as others have said you'll have a nice trailer.

Thanks- for all the feedback, right now its sitting in the back. I had been working on a 16X20 shed. 1/2 for the graden stuff, the other a tackle room, man shack. It has a storage loft. Its not that cool, but I need the room. (riding mower, push mower, rototiller, chain saws, misc yard tools) (20+ rods, tubs of steelhead, salmon gear, rod machine, small woodstove, fridge)
Anyway, when I get the shed finished I can start the trailer. |

Hi Jason,
You scored a nice looking Bantam T3-C. If the floor is not rusted full of holes, then you made a great score. When I was looking for my M416, unrestored T3-C trailers were going for between $200 to $800 depending on their condition. Most of them on the low end were real basket cases and all had floors that needed to be replaced. Ones that looked as nice and as straight as yours were in the higher end of that price range even if the floor needed some work. __________________ Kevin `85 4Runner - work in progress M416 Trailer - ukn year, rebuilt July 2007, build thread `68 FJ40 - planning stages of a build Green Country Cruisers - member Wish List - to long to post |

Also, did Toyota make any tailgates that were stamped with "Toyota" in the middle of them? I have no plans to keep this thing stock, was thinking a tailgate panel with toyota in the middle of it would be cool. |

Heres one,, Ron is a great guy,, give him a ring.. on his site is listed a floor panel,, but he should be able to hook you up with all the body panels you might need.. http://www.g503.com/parts/group24.html |

Geez, Jason, if you were in Oregon and had second thoughts about the trailer, I'd give ya $200 for it. My son needs a welding and shop project for college.
