Aluminum Tub Trailer

So after a year of designing and building and re designing in my head, I finally went ahead and started this project. Now this is not your usual Trailer Tech trailer, this is an aluminum tub trailer for behind my Quad for hauling moose/elk/firewood out of the bush. It is 72" long and 23" deep x 44" wide. Material is 10ga, or 1/8" aluminum and it will have tandem axles. I should also note that it has been 15 years since I welded aluminum.

On the front of the tub I decided to relieve it back 45 deg to try and make it harder to catch on stumps and other debris, measured this about 45 times and started cuttin. I also had a pocket made for putting a frame of 1" squre tubing into to add strength and help square it up.

Perfect 45. Whew, it fit like a glove. The second and third pics are my homemade jig and then installed on the tub.

This is how the square tubing fits in. The last pic is how the front turned out with the skid plate I added.

The steel plate will do three things, it will be the attachment point for the tongue and it will hold the pivot axle. Plus it will be bolted through the tub to tie the whole assembly together. Now I'm out of material, no more parts till Tuesday.

A couple questions. What spool gun are you using and what power source is it connected to? Thanks!

The spool gun came with the welder when I bought it. All you have to do is plug it in and attach the hot lead to the positive post inside the machine, plug into the Argon bottle and giver. The wirespeed control is on the bottom of the grip. The speed control on the machine is not functional when the gun is plugged in.

Well, all I did today was make the tongue assembly. Only had a couple hours, I was having some father-daughter time. I'm waiting for the tires (22x11x8) before I build the walking beam portion so that I can get the ride height right. Tires have to come from Vancouver.

06 Grizzly. Tires will not match due to whats available for stub axles and rim sizes. Quad has 26x10x12 swamp lites. Thats why I'm waiting for the tires to arrive to figure out ride height. I could probably get a ballpark measurement, but I want to get it as level as possible behind the quad, no stinkbug stance.

I think the JD progator 2020 front rims have a common bolt pattern,, if your friendly with somebody who works at a JD shop or golf course they could probably check for you..

Good info, but I already bought the rims for the 22x11x8s, and with a little bit of luck my 4 tires will MAYBE be here today. If I build another one though......

I decided to make my own axle plate rather than have a machine shop drill it for me. I layed out where I wanted the holes, put both plates in the vice and went for it. Who needs a machine shop...

They fit pretty good, and the price was just right...FREEBIE...NADA....ZIP....ZERO. Istill don't have my tires yet so I tacked the axle to the plate to get a better visual.

Then I took it all apart and cleaned the tub with a off the shelf wheel wash and primed the chassis and sprayed on the rockgaurd. Kinda boring but everybody likes pics.

When the spool gun is dialed in you can get some pretty nice beads.
