some mods done

Finished the exterior mods today with the addition of the blasted and painted wheels and some new tires. I decided to go with a good tire so I got me some BFG A/T TKO's in a 235/85/16. These measure up to 33" high and 9.5" wide so they are just still inside the fenders. No rocks in the rear window. Had the wheels blasted only to find out that the spare is a different wheel, military, but 1/4" wider. The tires are high enough that it adds just a bit of stink bug, which is exactly like I like it. I had the 150 lb. camp kitchen in there and didn't even feel it. No clunk from the pintle/lunet combo either.

Added some marker lights and new tail lights to round out the exterior. Took her for a test spin and both tires stayed on and stayed cool so I must have put the proper bearings and seals in. Hubs were tepid to the touch after30 miles. The added tongue length is really nice. It backs up much easier and no shimmy. Got it up to 85 and it tracked perfect.

Now to figure a mounting system for the tent... Which one of you guys talked me into a curved top??? Oh well, still looks cool.

Looks good!

Since it has a curved top, I think you might have to put at all four corners some extensions high enough to clear the curve, then mount Yakima, Thule, or fab your own crossbars for the tent base to hook to.

Here is an example on Maggs site.
Some system that will raise the bars up off of the curved roof.

I want the Chaser model in the picture above that one to mount my RTT to in the future.
I like how it flips up revealing the storage underneath.

Mine is an M100 Korean War era military. 1951. Cory posted the Adventure Trailers, a knock off of the M416 military. The Canadian M101 is almost the same as the rest of these. Basically the same dimensions.

Right after I posted the above I had a brain fart. I remembered that I had four Thule high clearance rack feet in a drawer in the garage from my FJ40 days. They clear 8" and the top of my trailer is 7.5". I fabed up four gutters and mounted them to the sides of the topper. The look is almost exactly like the photo that Cory posted above. Nothing like spending three days trying to come up with a solution that is right in front of you!

Photos tomorrow after the paint sets up.

Thanks for the input.

FYI: That's not a Chaser model (made by Adventure Trailers Chaser here: Off Road Tent Trailers by Adventure Trailers)...

Went from truck top to trailer top. I didn't like the height and the higher CoG. You can feel the extra lean in the corners. I made four roof rack gutters to mount the Thule gutter mounts on. and bolted them to the trailer topper. All I need now are stronger struts for the added weight on the topper. It's always something!

That worked out pretty well!
