trailer update

-put seam sealer on all the seams. ended up using a whole tube.

-hit the lid with a 3m stripping pad then threw some primer on it.
rustoleum rattle can auto primer

should be able to get it stripped down and painted this weekend after I get back from Denver.

- reinstall the lights and i will be good to go

i'll pull it outside and snap a picture of it tomorrow. ran out of daylight tonight

on a side note, one of my gas struts cashed out on me already looks like i will have to give mcmaster a call in the morning

Alright I am thinking about building a swing out tire carrier for the back of the trailer. I really don't have any other "good" places to put it. tried underneath but hangs down too far. I could put it up in front of the trailer with the water and fuel cans but I am a little worried about getting the tongue too heavy. Also it would be nice to hang the tire off the back to offset some the weight the water and fuel will add up front.

Any thoughts? I don't think I have seen anyone do this before.

Of course most trailer don't have a bumper on the back like mine either

Take a look at Outlander Trailers." They are one of the only trailer manufacturers that I can think of that I have seen put a spare tire on the back of the trailer.

Alright here are some pics of the swing out mock up.

I think I will ad another piece of tube from the spindle over to the tire support. to give it a little more support.

Did you box in the back of your bumper? You might need to for the tire swing out. It is amazing how much flex a tire can produce when it is swung open.

Drew - I didn't box it in.

I will be welding in a sleeve for the spindle. It will go completely through the bumper. I hope this will give it the rigidity it needs. If not I guess I will box in the bumper but that will make it a real pain to get the light housing in and out

how has your trip?

Yeah, I would brace it up as much as possible, I was blown away at how much leverage is created when you swing a full size tire out on a swing arm. I bet the sleeving would help a lot. Maybe you could add a few gussets to the sleeve even. Just think beefy. If it flexes a lot it won't open and close smoothly, and it will bounce all over on rough terrain. Looks like a great addition to an already sweet trailer bud.

Moab was Moab, which is AMAZING!

got the swing out about 90% fabbed up now.

I am waiting on the latch. and I need to make a stop to keep the swing out from swinging to far around and hitting the side of the trailer. Then I will throw some paint on it and the bumper, plus touch up some the trailer box and call it good for now!

I put the extra support bar from the spindle over to the tire mount and it made a huge difference. before I did this I was getting about .25" maybe a little more of flex in the swing out at the very end. Now zero

here is a pic of the work so far
