Another project

I acquired a "junk" trailer some time ago, for free, no paperwork. Was placed on a front yard with a free sign. I stopped pulled off the sign, ran the 1/2 mile to work in my car and returned in a service truck to tow it in. I got it the hr trip home piggyback on my 4x8 utility trailer(upside down). Been using it for fire wood around the house since, carting it off into the woods behind the garden tractor. About a week after I got it I got my m416, but now thats gone,,
I've been looking at it more closely. It was built in the 50's from a kit(I was told). Springs are Jeep, axle 3500#, no brakes, tounge is a 2 1/2 3/16 thick pipe that must have taken on water and the seam split. If the pic works one is attached. The frame is very solid extruded steel c-channel and has some weight to it. Floor is rotted out and the side and feders are almost free of the frame. I'm thinking about stripping her down to the frame and building a new box and "a" frame for it instead of starting from scratch.

What do you think,,
Steve

There seems to be a problem with the visual portion of this post.

I'd say that if the tongue is replaced and the frame is solid, then you'd have yourself a pretty nifty project! Build a box on top of it that has a place for a water tank, gear storage and a hinged top and you'll be all set.

Well,, after a strange day near 60 yesterday my trailer is no longer frozen to the ground. Snow is mostly gone, for now at least! I quickly took advantage of this and got it out to the asphalt while the getting was good. Today,, not so warm, in the mid 20's with high winds and snow squalls. But I got home early from work, so I bundled up and stripped her down. Just need use of a cutting torch to strip the body off and the frame will get blasted. Strangely this came apart rather easy for a 30-40 year old piece. Taking the little part to work tomorrow, glassbeading that stuff. If only the whole frame would fit in the box! I should have some pics up later..
Thanks,
Steve

The last pic is what helped unbolt everything,, its a 12volt compressor, puts out 150psi and cycles less than my 40 gallon home unit.. I do have to leave the engine running even with a yellowtop optima, well if I need it more than 15 minutes..

I'm thinking about stretching the frame out a little. Its just 6ft, thinking about 7. The springs/axle are real close to the middle. This should be more 60/40 right? I'm thinking about adding about 2-4 on the back and the majority on the front. The rear most crossmember, or back part of the frame is rather rusty. If I cut the front off and put it on the back , extended about 3 inches. and make a new "A" frame for the front that should work?
Heres a pic of the underside,, That would make it easier to add a 2" reciever out back too.. What you think??
