Here is a M-416 build my cousin and i started a few months ago. It is still in progress. I purchased the trailer for $300. I got most of the ideas from this site. Here are some pics of what i have done.

Bought some 33's on rock crawler wheels, added rancho shocks, put new led lights, painted frame, NOS springs with all new shackles.

Yes, it is a jeep
. Focus on the trailer. Here are some pics of cutting the tub. There was some damage to the front of the tub. So we decided to cut about 16 inches from the front, rotate it 180 degree's, and fab a tailgate and storage box for the front.![]() ![]()

I bought a roof top tent so we decided to mount it on a 1 3/4" square tube rack. I also put some tubing to hold a shovel and axe. The tubing follows the contour of the inside of the trailer. We did this because we needed to support the flimsy tub and have a place to mount tailgate latches.

Man that looks great! And GOOD on ya' for gettin' your boy involved. Love that pic of him with the hood on!
![]() I really like the idea you have of adding a box up front, and your method of how you are going about it is really, really cool! Sweet rack too! Keep it up and keep the pics coming! Thanks. That is my cousins kid and he is actually showing my cousin how to weld. We changed the rack after the last picture because it was way to high with the tent on. So we decided to lower it. I will add more pics this weekend. It is painted and the tailgate and front box is complete.

great job, but aren't you afraid of the topweight??
I saw pictures of a 'normal' M416 that turned over in the desert just because one wheel felt in a hole.

We ended up lower the rack after these pictures. The top now sits where the middle cross-bar is in the picture above. I did not want the hassle of having a closed lid so I would have to lift the tent every time I wanted something out of the trailer. Also, my daughter's quad fits nicely under the rack.

New Pics
Here are some pics of the trailer. The fenders are still in progress. I put a AGM battery that adventure trailers recommended. Also, I wired a battery charger with an external plug and 4 -12 volt plugs for accessorries, it is that grey box in the front. Mounted two jerry cans. I am still going to wire some flood lights all around the trailer,line-x the inside black and the outside to match the green jeep. I am also trying to figure out a way to mount two propane burners and a bar-b-q.

Looks good!
Are those feet to support the trailer on the rear on the last pic? I don't see them on the trailer pics when it's hooked up to your receiver. How are those mounted and do they help? Do you have front ones too? __________________ Treasurer of Austin Lone Star Land Cruisers TLCA # 15006 Looking for a Cruiser..... Relics: 1991 BTJ80, 1985 BJ70, 1997 FZJ80, 1981 FJ40, 1978 FJ40 |

They are removable stabalizers that are just placed under the rear bumper. They have a rachet strap that connects to the landing legs and pulls them together. I got them for the rear only and the they work good. The trailer does not move much when inside the tent.

Brilliant! I love the "inside" and "outside" storage idea.

Nice build on the trailer sir.
![]() I'll be startin' mine soon and gotta coupla questions ... 'bout the tow rig. ![]() Do you happen to know the overall weight and/or tongue weight of your trailer? Did your jeep have any problems towing it? Stopping it?

The jeep did not have any problems towing or stopping. With the trailer fully loaded the tongue weight I would say is about 150 lbs. I still need to try pulling it with the propane and gas tanks filled, that may make a difference.

Do you have more info on your battery, inverter, charger setup? I need to do something similar. Did you buy the metal cases everything is housed in, or have them made?

When I was shopping for the battery i called aventure trailers to see what they ran. The recommended the AGM Deka batery. It is a sealed "absorbed glass mat" battery with about 130 or so amp hours. I paid $245 for it and so far I happy with it. The charger i used is a 6 amp guest charger. I put a shore line plug so it is easier to connect. The metal cases are sold at most industrial and commercial electrical suppliers. They have all kinds of different sizes. Look below for more recent pics.

Thanks Pint. I bought them online from some militay surplus store. I will try to find the link and post it. The suspension is the same as the early 1950's jeeps, so search there as well.

Here are more recent pics of the trailer. I rearranged the front box and put a water tank, 2.8 gpm pump, faucet and hose. Also wired 6 lights and put a switch box in.

Thanks. No, not really. I have about 50" of length so I can fit everything I need. One thing I would like to do is incorporate some storage boxes some how. I have been looking at the Tradesmen truck boxes. If I put those on they will give some space for storage and camping supplies.
