So I have this M416.......

And it is stock except I put normal tail lights on it. I use it here and there for different tasks and I am at sort of a crossroads with it.

I have 3 kids, a wife and a dog.

We like to get out and do stuff.

Can I make this trailer more useful to our family or would I be better off selling it to get a pop up?

I already own the following camping gear that normally rides in the trailer:

Coleman 3 burner stove
3-5 gallon water jerry cans
4-5 gallon fuel NATO fuel cans
Family size tent
Air mattresses
Sun Shower
Port a Potty
Coleman camp table
4 post awning thing

We can all fit in the tent for now except the dog (dogs and tents don't mix) so he sleeps in his travel crate outside if it is nice or in the cruiser if it the weather is bad.

If we got a pop-up it would probably still not have a bathroom unless we got a monster sized one. A pop up would have heat and maybe A/C. A pop up would be more comfortable, but at what cost? A pop up would not be able to go on the trails, but I'm not planning on going anywhere that that would be an issue.

I'm just thinking aloud, so this may sound like rambling.

Any opinions are welcome.

Dave

I say use it, abuse it, and enjoy it! It sounds like you already have everything you need to have alot of fun without any $ outlay. You might want to loose the sand before camping with it though.LOL My lab can sleep under the trailer just as easy as in the tent. Maybe a skirt around the trailer to keep the wind and water off of them, or a portable kennel. Just my .2 cents

I agree, you can turn that into something that really works for you without any $ on the table.

However, yours looks to be in good shape and those things are starting to fetch a good price anymore. You could put that into a pop up, which are a dime a dozen on Craigslist and the like. Just another thought.

There is a guy that stops by once in a while and he has restored M38A1 and he has offered me 1000 bucks for it whenever I'm ready. He said he can be here with the cash an hour after I call.

I dont think you could relpace it for that! This stuff is starting to get pretty pricey! Its a supply and demand issue, enjoy it while letting it increase in value. How could it be any better than that? LOL

I just looked on Craigs list and I think a halfway decent pop up can be added to the stable for 2k. I think I'll keep it for now as it would be next to impossible to replace. I have had it for ~6 years now and I use it for everything form dump runs to a camping trailer. It is rust free too.

Lots of guys change them to have rear tailgate.....

We go camping with our Cdn M101 with 4 of us and all our gear.
It works out fairly well. Just got to be creative with the gear packing.

west hawk 5 pictures from friends & fun photos on webshots

I've got both. Use the 40 and the M416 when I camp/wheel alone and we use the Tundra and our popup when we family camp.

Word of caution - don't store anything in your trailer which can contain moisture (sand/leaves/etc.). The floor's aren't all that thick and they will rot out.

That was dirt from a couple years ago that I was using. Besides, we don't get rust in Arizona
