Process to getting a trailer on the road in MD.

This is my process for getting my newly acquired 1967 M416 titled/registered(75.00 for 3000#) in MD. After much searching, debate (build or buy), and general research. I located a M416 trailer 30 miles from the house. I decided to buy, because time was an issue. The asking price was 625.00, offered 400.00, picked up that night. I used a uhaul trailer (25.00/day, with 15.00 deposit), to bring it home. Disassembled the trailer that weekend, wire brushed, rattle canned(20.00) the inside of the tub and entire frame. Re-assembled using what old hardware that I could. Bought a light kit (35.00), pintle hook(55.00), 4 point harness kit with relay(70.00) and just purchased MD temp tags (20.00). I am trying to make this time and cost effective. So far i have spent 715.00. I still need to get the trailer inspected (45.00). My goal is to stay under 1000.00, and later this summer, when I will have more time, bead blast, rhino-line, tongue extension, and fab a frame to mount on top- like a ladder rack, for more versatility. Notice, I did not do a SOA. I decided to keep it as stock as possible- no tailgate cutting. You really need to consider your options. This trailer was in good condition, mostly surface rust, etc.....so it is a good foundation to grow, and work from. I have a trailer, on it's way to the trail, not an unfinished, hung-out-to-dry-never-ending-project. I am happy with how this turned out, and look forward to many years of useful service.

The only thing I can think of is if they ask for the papers from the Govt about it being sold as surplus .
I know many have just done the "homebuilt" deal in MD .

I took the "homebuilt" route myself when I first registered it in MD. Had to show pictures of the safety chains and lights. Easy as pie!

What are you putting for how much the trailer can haul?

Yesterday I registered my CDN M101 in MD as a home built trailer. Take pictures of one side and the front and back to the MVA and fill out all the forms there. The MVA in Essex was very helpful. They gave me a Vin and temp tag on site. I will have it inspected next week and go back. With Chesapeake tags the whole shebang costs about $180.
