my tent came last weekend, but i left for breckenridge the day after. dislocated my elbow snowboarding, so haven't gotten to set it up properly. will post more pics as soon as i get it out and mounted. i also got my water tank off ebay. it's a 21 gallon and measures 39"x16"x8" and fits perfectly in the tub.

off the top of my head, i think there is 41 inches at the base on the inside of mine.
edit: it's actually 41 inches. __________________ m416 build http://forum.ih8mud.com/trailer-tech...6-buildup.html soa troopy-sold http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-...oa-troopy.html hj45lv*t build http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-...2At-build.html Last edited by missipboy; 01-31-08 at 06:45 AM. |

after looking at the prices of yakima and thule racks and all the crap you have to buy with it to make it work in my application, i decided to build a permanantly mounted rack on the top of my lid. this will give me a place to mount my tent, carry other junk and eventually somewhere to mount my kayak and bike. i got the idea from izzydusit over on expedition portal. he's done a great job on his trailer. here's a pic of his rack-hope he doesn't mind.
the main difference is my tent will be mounted above the rack on some removable crossbars so i can carry more crap, and it'll be made of round tube. __________________ m416 build http://forum.ih8mud.com/trailer-tech...6-buildup.html soa troopy-sold http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-...oa-troopy.html hj45lv*t build http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-...2At-build.html Last edited by missipboy; 01-31-08 at 03:27 PM. |

finished my rack today. just have to paint the whole thing and then fab up some cross bars to mount the tent on.
i used 1.05 inch gas pipe as i couldn't find any tube on short notice. it's a little heavier, but it doesn't add up to enough to matter. __________________ m416 build http://forum.ih8mud.com/trailer-tech...6-buildup.html soa troopy-sold http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-...oa-troopy.html hj45lv*t build http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-...2At-build.html |

got my tent mounted on some thule crossbars. very easy to mount.
first time setting it up was a breeze. and with practically no instructions. it did come with some vague instructions, but you don't need them anyway. i know you've read write ups on the tent, so i'll just tell you i'm trilled with it and then show you some pictures. __________________ m416 build http://forum.ih8mud.com/trailer-tech...6-buildup.html soa troopy-sold http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-...oa-troopy.html hj45lv*t build http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-...2At-build.html |

when we got to the campsite it was cold, dark and raining. the tent setup was fast and easy and stayed dry as a bone inside. we ended up moving about 100yards down the bank the next morning to get a little closer to the mighty missip.

thanks for the comments. the next phase will be the kitchen and a coat of paint. someone asked me about the axle and i just wanted to point out that it's a 5 lug axle and doesn't match the toyota pattern. i'm hoping to remedy this in the future, but i haven't heard of a hub swap that allows it like on some of the other trailers. this is definitely something i would plan on including in an m416 build.

So are you running the original leaf springs and axle? I just picked up a very nice M101. The only real rust is on the bottom and and around the leafs and axle. Gonna have it sand blasted to see what kind of shape it's really in. Keep up the great work!
