Post And so it begins...

Today, 9/16/07 - I drove out to the AZ/NM border to pick up my military trailer.

Its a 1952 M100 that I picked up slightly rough, but at a nice price and perfect for me since I have a lot of plans for it.

The bonus is it was already converted to 6 lug, and came with nice Toyota steelies and brand new tires!

I have the standard pintle setup, and I had it on the location which is level with the original receiver.

At that height, the trailer was about level, a little higher than as pictured above.

Of course, excitement got the best of me, and about 30 minutes later I did the SOA swap...

Now I'll have to lift the pintle hitch up 1 or 2 slots to level it out.

I'll have to do some measuring tomorrow, but I'm going to end up with either 2" or 3" spacers on each wheel to try to match the truck's trackwidth.

I already have another set of 4 matching tires coming in so I'll have my trailer tires and a spare for the vehicle and trailer.

I'm going to want of research ways to mount the roof top tent onto the top of the trailer.

Folded up, the length matches the trailer exactly. (72")

The width of the tent is 3" less than the trailer top width, so I'll have 1.5" extra on each side.

The stock fenders won't work with the big tires. I don't want to modify them since theyre in great shape and original - but I found a local trailer shop that has fenders of all sorts of sizes and widths. If possible I'd like them to look like the originals in the round design, but wide enough to cover the tires to save my rear window.

After the POR-15 game and some hole repair in the tub I got started on the rhino lining inside and paint outside. Once I get the larger fenders fabbed up, I'll rhino line the lower half to match the LX design.

Well I got the tub finished - holes patched, POR15'd, rubberized bedliner inside, a layer of black indoor/outdoor carpeting on the floor, and new light tan paint outside (looks almost white with the camera flash).

I sprayed the fenders a black color to get an idea of how it will look and decide on my paint lines for the rhinoliner outside.

I'm pretty sure I'll spray the tub under the fenders, and I'm thinking my horizontal line will be about 2" below the reflectors, so everything below that line will be black rhinoliner.

Your trailer is looking great.

If the new tires are not rubbing, why widen the trailer's track width?

If the trailer's track is narrower than the tow vehicle, then you will be less likely to snag the trailer when making turns on the trail.

The "new tires" will be the same 39x13x16's on the Lexus with matching Lexus rims, so I'll need the spacers to fit them.

I want the trailer's wheel track to be close to if not as wide as the truck's. That way (at least most of the time) objects I am placing my truck tires on are going to be what the trailer's tires go over. I won't want to be straddling a ditch and then drop the trailer down into it.

Some new pics today..

The king size Overland tent actually fits INSIDE of the M100 trailer. Of course I can't leave it that low if I want to open it, so next week I'll be off to the fab shop have them build an aluminum lid to mount the tent on.

In the stock receiver location, even with the adjustable height hitch the trailer does not mount level as shown in the pics.

I'll have even more height to deal with with the larger tires once I have them mounted, but with the 4x4labs bumper, it should even out my receiver height issue.

Cody,

It looks awesome!! I don't know if this will help, but my M101 CDN has 2 places for the lunnette ring to mount on the tongue. If you can mount it on the lowest setting, it would level out your trailer.

later

Ryan - only 1 hole on the M100 trailers. I think the M416 and M101 have 2 slots.

No lid yet, but I plan on something similar to DesertDude's fabbed up lid. Just a square bar metal frame that will fit around the outside of the trailer "lip" on top, sheet metal skin, and some type of rack that will lift the tent a few inches so I can access the hooks for the tent cover.

hmmm.......optical illusion. it's so clean inside i thought there was a black lid on top. that makes me feel a little better about the speed of my buildup. although i'm still a slacker in comparison. keep it up; it gives me motivation.

Put a set of 80 rims on the 40...or vice versa...and the decision becomes easy.

I actually mounted and bolted up the wheel/tire combo to determine the exact spacer size I will need.

The plan as of the last few days was to look into cutting the fender down the cen
