Tail Light Converters

OK, I've searched and can't find a consensus as to what is the best way to go for installing a trailer wiring harness for a FJ62 . Is a powered converter really necessary for standard/light towing? Some say yes, some say no. The splice route is much easier...and cheaper.

Whataya think?

If the FJ62 has the separate turn signals and taillights like my 80s, then you will require a converter to make the trailer lights function properly.

OTOH, if your brake lights function as your turn signals, then you may be able to directly splice it as long as you don't pull too much current for the stock wiring harness on the FJ62 to handle.
