Thanks, Martyn gave me that link I didn't bookmark it and couldn't find it again.
Sweet set up for almost any trailer. I was thinking of it for a pop-up. __________________ Dan Johnson Quote:

Just grabbing a few numbers off th net, I'm sure you could shop around and find cheaper components.
Torsion hubs ~ $300 northern tool Air Bags ~ $200 universal air Electric brakes ~$200 Southwest Wheel Hubs/drums ~ $120 Southwest Wheel Fab A Arms ~ $????? (unless you have mad fab skilzs this is going to cost$$$) total ~$820 + steel and fabrication labor for a arms I don't think the price is unreasonable. It may be more than you are willing to pay, but it doesn't sound that high to me. __________________ Dan Johnson Quote:

BTW. A. T. Quoted $700.00 and change, no more the $750, I think they charge $1100 if they do the conversion __________________ __________________ Lou 74 FJ55 ,350 Ram Jet, H55 2007 Lexus IS350 |

If you go this route are you pretty much stuck with that height? How would you add more lift to clear larger tires on the trailer?

You just add more air to the air bags to get more lift. My friend is a sales rep for AT. He was telling me that the AT Chaser can clear 35" (possibly 37", i can't remember) tires.

My understanding is add more air for ride height and load adjustment, All the Adven Trailers run a good size tire and have plenty of clearance. www.expeditionswest.com Under equiptment they have a great write up on Adven Trialers and has all the informatiom regarding suspension and running up to 38's

Nice!
I've been wanting an C-M101, or M416 for a while now, and if the suspension kit can be bought for around $750, thats a great deal for my plans. I wanted a trailer that could fit the 38.7 military tires I run on my 80 so this is the route Im going once I find a deal on a trailer I can get to AZ. __________________ 97 LX450 - Champagne Silver / 161k / 5.29s / ARB lockers F/R 39" Michelin XML tires, 8" coils / L shocks, 1.5" wheel spacers, Slee caster plates, ARB rack & Safari Snorkel, 60 ARB bullbar, custom sliders, dual swingout rear bumper, Overland RTT on a Monster M100 trailer Copper State Cruisers #045 |

Price is coming
Have spent a few hours talking to Scott and Mario at adventure trailers, this setup only works on the M416 not the M101. They are working on a bolt on kit that will be very easy for anyone with a drill and hand tools to complete. The current set up requires welding the plate for the air bag the front bracket for the trailing arms bolts on. Still waiting on a final price but somewhere in the $700's plus shipping is the range.
I keep ya posted Lou __________________ __________________ Lou 74 FJ55 ,350 Ram Jet, H55 2007 Lexus IS350 |

$1199.00
It appears after a long wait and many conversations that the suspension system from Adventure Trailer is not in the mid $700's it's $1199.00. I don't want to go into the details , all I can say is there was a misunderstanding. So the plan may still include using AT's system, it's just going to cost a lot more.
I did find a company in AU that carry's the same system, I've emailed them for pricing but I think the shipping cost could kill the deal, but will keep ya'll posted . www.vehiclecomponents.com.au The pic's below are from thier site. I can not imagine why you would spend the cash on that.

I think the suspension would be ideal on fast moving corrugation and rougher roads where a leaf sprung trailer would rattle and bounce itself silly. However, most of what I intend to use my trailer on is paved or rocky trails... not a lot of washboard stuff.
FWIW, my entire trailer build will come in under the suspension mod for the m416 trailer, however, you could blow me away on the washboards. ![]() Rezarf <>< __________________ Drew F. Hey, I'm just looking to put the best suspension I can put on my M416.
If I set back and thought about all the money I was going to spend building my truck and now this trailer. I would not have bought either. I'm really not one to compare who spends less or who spends more for something they want, but time is money and 10 months of planning, calculating, recalculating, rethinking this and that and mid build you decide to change something, your total won't be much less then mine, and when that washboard or rutted road come's up, I'll be happy I spent the money, and you'll have one sweet trailer that you built from scratch that will rattle itself silly. Now I don't want you to start re-thinking your suspension or anything please start chopping some steel![]() Regards Lou __________________ __________________ Lou 74 FJ55 ,350 Ram Jet, H55 2007 Lexus IS350 Last edited by Luke111; 07-28-07 at 07:14 PM. |

I am not trying to diswade you from buying the system, although pricey, I think it is an amazing suspension, and not only the best thing on the market, but it is the only kit like it around. Sorry bud, no offense meant, I say go for it.

I again say that is too much money to spend on an airbag suspension.
Keep looking...there has to be a better way than that. Have you considered gettting a complete Adventure trailer? IMO, the 416 is too small in the first place to spend that kind of money building it up. I think I would do a 3 link with coils before I did that........ |

Hey, don't get me wrong, I hear you guy's loud and clear, it's expensive. I'm still pist about the price, I don't want to vent about this whole misunderstanding regarding the price that was quoted, thats for another day.
Here's the deal, I have very limited fab skills, so this system fit my skill level and it's independent with air bags for load level. Actually the M416's cargo box is larger in every dimension except height, it's 20 inches longer and 8 inches wider. As for you Drew, I'm busting your chop's, you are very detailed, everytime I see you've posted something new, I'm thinking this time we'll see a completed frame, so I do have a question!! How long should my draw bars extend from the front of the cargo box, not including the coupler. Regards Lou __________________ __________________ Lou 74 FJ55 ,350 Ram Jet, H55 2007 Lexus IS350 |

Lou- for a 40 or a 55? The idea is you don't want to jack knife the trailer and actually touch the body of the rig with the box of the trailer. My 40 comes out to about 33" minus the hitch setup.
