Pics Wanted: Your tent/trailer setup

I just picked a up Mombasa roof top tent today, and I am hoping to get a military trailer when I find a good one locally. I have a full size 4WD pickup and my FJ60 that I could mount this thing to, but I am really wanting an M101 for this setup. That way, I can leave my tent setup at camp and take my vehicle to where I will hunt.

Have you guys mounted one of these on a military trailer? How are you mounting it? Any hinges or hydraulic struts used so that you can access your gear underneath? At times, I will be carrying a generator, fuel, and water in this trailer as well.

I'd love to see pics of you have 'em.

Thanks--

C

Check out the post I just made to the car-top-tent thread. Mine will have a cage made of 1.5" tube. I will custom sew the sunbrella fabric and make my own roof rack. I plan to only have a front and rear hoop which gives me almost 6 feet clear side space. Tent will open to one side and on the opposite side will be a cooking station. A custom wood mess box will mount to the top of the trailer rail and run the lenght of the m101. The outside edge of the box will be inside the cage. A lid will hinges down to make your work table.

This is the ticket:

How do you access the stuff in the trailer. Is the tent on a hinged lid? Do you ever wish it was higher up for better access to gear?

It looks like there is a tailgate and lid on that one.

I saw this one at the Rising Sun rally last month, I think, not sure of the owner kept looking for him at the show, never met him though.

Great pics!

I haven't even opened my tent yet, but I got that fire sale here in Dallas on the Mumbasa tents; I only paid $ 325 new in box! I am getting married this weekend and then in Hawaii all next week, so it may be a couple of weeks before I can tinker with it.

I need to get a trailer here soon, and then I'll be ready to roll. That is the next thing I need to nail down. Those M101 CDNs are hard to find down here.

If you find a deal or a group buy let me know. I am in same boat as you.
I was thinking about a popup for a while and also maybe one of the adventure trailers but so far a 101 or a 416 is looking like the more cost efficient solution.

Panzer (and others), here is the link where these things are/were:

I'm not sure if there are any left by this point, but it is a smokin' deal.

Sorry should have specified "Trailer deal or group buy" . I did the same as you with the mombasa.
I was looking at other options but with that price on the tents the scales tipped toward the build an M101 and away from buy a popup. (plus a pop up isnt going to go some of the places I want to take it)

I PM'd koffer to see he is still in the trailer business, Ill let you know what I find out.

Oh--we really are in the same boat then!

Koffer is still in the M101 business, but it becomes cost prohibitive after shipping I think. Let me know if you find out any good news though.

Hinged steel lid, custom tailgate. It's not bad, although I wouldn't mind if the tent sat a little taller:

Guys, I have a line on a guy here in Denver that is bringing in 13 "new" m101's from Canada. The plus side is they are all in great shape, first payer gets first choice and so on...

... bad news is, he is looking for 1500 bucks a pop!

I can get you the info if you want it.

I am holding out for a local M416, or take Exiled and others advice and scratch build one too.

BTW, I got the Car-Top-Tent coming this week too! Looks like we are all gunning for the same stuff.

$ 1500 each? The sad thing is that he'll probably sell them for that.

Exiled, your rig and trailer are awesome. I was admiring it at Katemcy this year.

$1500 bettter be shipped to my door. When you start talking about that kind of scratch and then have to spend more $$ on mods to get it like you want it.
It very quickly begins to approach the cost of an Adventure Trailer Chaser or a base model AT Horizon.

it was a one off for the civilian bantam trailer. supposedly the canback for a 4 door tacoma is real close to the same size as the trailer.

I posted the red one. This trialer is not mine but I have corresponded with the owner. Before Can-Back was sold they did custom projects which the new owners are not entertaining as I have spoken to them.

The can-back on this trailer is basically a modified top from a step side compact pickup. I am going to sew my own top after I get my trailer cage built by 2badfj's. I will post up the results in a few months when it is done.

The other option for a top is the softtopper. It is held together by a bimini type expanding frame. I have inquired about buying a top without poles for a step side truck but have not heard back.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think Koffer still has some tents. The downside is that he's in New Jersey...but even with shipping...if you move a few of them in bulk, might be better than the $1500 price.
