Trying to do a pre-purchase vehicle inspection before somebody jumps on a plane to fly down to TN.

This is probably too late but you might look into "National Auto Warehouse". Just google that w/ Knoxville and it'll come up. I dont know if they can help but they deal heavily in diesels. They do a lot of biodiesel conversions and they swap a lot of JDM diesels into toyota's (mostly 4-Runners and Trucks).
