Avoiding smog testing!!!

I know Todd is registered in MS, but I dont know anyone from MS...so is there anywhere in TN that I could register my 80 next year without having to smog test it? Been looking at it and the 80's are supposed to have 2 Cats and it appears that the PO (from ATL) eliminated both...so Im sure I will be screwed if I try to pass emissions next Aug. That being said, does GA require smog testing to register? I know a couple folks down there that might help me out with an address.

i'd shoot for GA if i were you. they don't require emissions testing AFAIK

Here in Shelby county, it just has to pass the sniffer. Nobody looks at the emissions equipment. Emissions and safety issues are the only things they look at.

No Cats = failed sniffer test...am I wrong about this?

Don't know. Maybe you could have an exhaust shop weld in one for fairly cheap.

Maybe try to run it through first, just to see.

Is yours a gov't testing facility or do you pay a private shop to do the tests?

Govt testing...$10/pop, if it passes, good for 6 months. If it fails, you get one free retest in that 6 months.

Only Nashville Metro and Hamilton cty are smog areas...Knoxville told the EPA to go fawk themselves

Metro Atlanta is a test area. Up here in Rome = no tests.

I took mine in today just out of curiosity, as I have it registered in an inspection-free zone and the inspection is free.

Anyhow, I passed the HC - I got 153 ppm, the max is 220. I failed the CO - I got a 2.85%, where the max is 1.2%.

My truck has a carb, zero smog equipment and no cat. I bet if I tinkered with the idle mixture and maybe put a cat on it would pass easily.

Since you have FI, I think you wouldn't have any problems, especially if you threw a cat in there.
