Custom sliders???
Anyone know someone around Chatt town that can build me a set of decent sliders for my '92 80? I dont need the heavy duty Metaltech $800 ones...but something to help protect would be good.

There are several companies that handle sliders for 80's and would most likely be cheaper that someone local reinventing the wheel. Here are a couple of good companies: .http://www.sleeoffroad.com/, http://www.ironpigoffroad.com/,

I've been really happy with the Solid Rock Offroad set (2badfjs on mud) that I got for my 60. They're a couple hundred less than the big brands, and are plenty sturdy.

We have a CNC plasma here at work and just about any thickness and type of sheet metal available. If you get me some dimensions, I can at least get you a quote to fab one.

Just got my MT ones welded to the 40 last week (
Roger!) and I've got to say while the 40 sliders are cheaper than the 60/80 sets, there's no way I could've built these for the cost I paid for them. Come out tonight and see them! The fit and finish is simply amazing. With the cost of steel and the waste from trying to bend them and the countless hrs spent trying to reinvent the wheel, for 350 it was money well spent. Kudos also to Jim Bearden (2badfjs) he does quality work for a fair price. If all you want is some box tube welded to the frame then go ahead, but the wrapped tube in the 60/80s really looks sweet and 800 really is a fair price for what you get. The MT ones even cover the CAT i believe. Of course, I'm a huge fan and friend of Mark Hawley (MT Owner) so I'm a bit biased I have a card around here somewhere for some custom fab guys in N. Chatt/Hixson. I'll see if I can track it down before the meeting. Also check out Hudlow Axle in Rossville. Sliders on FJ 07
I built my own set out of steel tubing. I saw a picture on-line and made a template. They actual turned out better and only cost about $50 with tubing from Lowe's and my neighbor mig welder. I also made a light bar and fitted it to my roof rack.
Be creative and make your own! |

![]() It was s'posed to come across that I love your stuff ie as much as MT, BUT if all Steve wanted was a simple box tube then he should just weld it up himself. I wasn't comparing Solid Rock's stuff to simple box tube sliders...Sorry if it came across that way :shotts:![]() Also my apologies for misspelling your name! ![]() Todd __________________ Please donate to the Rescue Tellico Fund and help save the Tellico OHV area --Todd Chattanooga, TN 1980 FJ40, H41/0rion, SOA, 38.5 TSL/SX, LF Beadlocks, Longs, Sag pwr steer w/ ram assist. My burger & onion rings were perfect! My wife couldn't believe the amount of gas I had this morning!
Place was ok but I prefer more of a sports bar type atmosphere like T-boners or Hair of the Dog (more eye candy). Maybe try something on the other side of town next time like Fox&Hound? Sorry Steve, I'm not much of a pool player or karyoke singer unless i'm good and toasty! ![]() Nice to meet you Steve, Mike & Mike(Bro-G) __________________ Running total of non-waving FJC drivers ......534'85 FJ60 bone stock (the way i like it) '87 Ford Ocnorb with lots of redneck stuff & custom dented body panels |

Prices are good, he can do it by the Hour, or Price it by the Job...
Call him, he has guy working for him named Chris that has a Taco, that showcases his work. and he lives in Chattanooga. Go to the tennesseeoffroad.com board, look for Hotwheels YJ, Cage He just finished it, and it was like 1200 or so.. That included all the steel, and it looks better than a BTF Cage... He could have done a basic for like 500-600 bucks but this guy wanted, Custom... |
