So I went to replace a couple of broken grease fitting today between birthday dealings and one went in no problem The second bit me in the ass. (I was going for a ten minute fix) I broke off my tap. Could not get it out, then broke of multiple drill bits. Lucky it was just a fitting in a shackle bolt. I hammerred the shards to the end of the cavity inthe hollow bolt and drilled it to accept a bigger fitting.

decided she wants to stay home superbowl/birthday and told me to work on the 40. Women, who gets 'em?

Yes I did and he did a great job. That is for my other project, however. I have not started a thread yet becasue there is not much to see. It will be coming soon.

Thanks for the parts. Roger still has them.

OK - grease fitting repaired. No problem, just drilled the hole considerable larger and put in a new one with an 8mm thread. Also discovered where my wire was broken for the fuel guage sender. Will be an EZ fix. I also installed the speedi sleeve over the weekend. What a PITA. Because of my set up (4 speed in an early truck) I have to drop the rear of the motor down an inch to get the parking brake drum off. I discovered it did not want to go because the collar on the tranny was binding on the tranny hump in the truck. Finally got it all apart and discovered a large amount of metal in the brake drum. Not sure where it came from or why it was there. Appears to be the drum rubbing on something and scoring but I could not identify the source of the problem. The seal looked fine but I replaced it anyway.

Got the whole shitteroo back together and drove it. No issues yet. Then the radiator started leaking out of the petcock and I noticed I still have a considerable oil leak at the front. Either the top front of the oil pan or the rear timing gear gasket which can not be removed without engine disassembly. Shitty. I will keep at it.

Found the broken wire preventing the fuel gauge from working today. Was no problem. And that is fixed. But that freaking rear output on the transfer is leaking...AGAIN! Shit. I put a new seal and speedi sleeve in there last week or when ever it was and I guess I did not get it right where it needed to go. Soooo, now what? I guess I am going to let it leak for a while.

Since the torque tube was removed once and rotated for the 4 speed mod, I may removed it and do something else becasue I can not remove my parking brake drum without dropping the rear of the engine and transmission down two inches. That is no way to have to fix things.

If anyone was wondering, this will cause a significant leak from the front of the oil pan!

When I put the pan on with the motor out I guess I m ade a rookie mistake. The front portion slipped behind the groove.

All fixed. Sure is harder in the truck though.

Not sure what those seats are out of and not sure I like the mounts either. PO welded them out of square tube and diamond plate. I got some free stock '78 seats on the board and they are stored in VA at the folks house right now. Not sure If I am going to save those for 40 or not.

I had a valve cover gasket installed in a similar fashion

Well it has been a while since I posted to this thread but that is ok.

and I took the beast out for a real test drive tonight. Filled up the gas tank - $40 muther freakin bucks fer yer ass - and thenheaded back home becasue it was over heating. Got home checked the "water" level and that was good. Think the thermostat is sticking. I assume without looking they are just like an old Ford or Chevy. The temp was fluctuating like an old truck with a bad one so I put my money there. Plus, the engine sat a long time before I got it so another reason I think it a possibility.

Next - was dripping alot from the pet cock in the radiator. I have kniown about that and have avoided fixing it. That is on the list.

Next - On the way home I hit the high beam switch and a fe moments later the lights went out. I guess I have a minor short. I would guess it is in the high beam florr switch since it was beat to shit and I had to do major work on it I am guessing there is an issue there. I know TPI has them so I may grab one from them.

Next - I sent an old speedo housing to Poser to get it machined for two seals as that is still dripping. i took one off the three speed that has been in the back yard for a while. He tells me they are the same until you get to the split case.

Finally DEATH WOBBLE! FUck. I have heard about it, never felt it until tonight. I have to do some reading and figure this out. I know my manual steering box is toast and have just about everything to do my Saginaw conversion and also have stuff for a forerunner disc brake conversion so I guess that is going to be bumped to the top of the list. Death wobble brings the suck. Hits me about 45 mph so much lower than I have read. Running 35s and all stock junk but the truck was swapped to a 4 speed.

Anywho - that is where I am. Have fun in Telico again without me. I spaced it out and did not drop the freebees off for Andy in Chattanooga. Sorry bro - but fuggit - they are free

Side bar - it was fun to drive it - and my buddy and his kids could not believe it!

Okay. Petcock fixed. Tried to work on some other stuff and got interupted by my buddy and his sons Nissan Altima. I had to replace the thermostat in that as well as the valve cover gasket set and plugs. None of which appeared tp be bad and I discovered after that he was way low on coolant - the burp tank was dry - and his oil level was down a bit.

I then started getting the jump seats in I bought from Wadester a year or more ago. I had to fill 13 holes the PO left me on either fender well for who knows what. I got about 6 done. I also drilled the holes for the seats and welded in some steel T nuts for the top mounts. That worked well.

Maybe I will get home early enought tomorrow night to finish that.

No pics thought. took the camera to Jamaice and I am Bachin' it!

No sweat Hef. C-ya when I c-ya.

Since it is fresh on my brain ....something to check...I just replaced my water pump and thermostat. I failed to check the condition of my fan clutch and it kept me from wheelin' last weekend. Roger was able to hold the fan while the engine was running.

BTW, nice to hear you took your Ass for a test drive. Congrats!
