Finally...here is my shift rod issue:
The fucker willpush right through! And I am certain the fork is worn out not the shaft end. I do not want to pull it apart again so I am going to see if I can get a machine shop to make me a bit larger shaft end. __________________ Hugh Heifer 9/71 FJ40 / 4 Speed / '77 2F / Weber / Header / 4" Skyjacker / 35" BFG Mudders [ And a '71 going ground up] |

Just a quick update w/o pics. I drained all the remaining fluids today and all but the rear dif were full of water and looked absolutely moldy. I will post a pic of the goo. In the mean time I fabbed some spring clamps for the wife's build (which I still have not started a threadon!) Since tomorrow is a holiday for me I plan on getting the fluids filled, get the heater back in and replace the dizzy with the one I got from Barry A. I have some wiring to take care of that is a bit buggered so we will see what the day brings. I als want to get the wifes springs together (did two today) soI can get them off the floor of the shop. Pics tomorrow.

Well, since I am still up and drinkin, thought I would share a pic or two of the junk:
This is the tranny fluid and front diff fluid. Nice. ![]() Here are the spring packs for the "other project" I put together with the aircraft fasteners I had in my tool box since Desert Storm I think they are beat though. One had no tension left when I put it back together. Here is the "other project." ![]() MH is now thinking the Purple People Eater. I was thinking Professor Plum - she is a teacher ![]() At least it has now been moved off the old smashed pallet and onto the saw horses for some work. __________________ Hugh Heifer 9/71 FJ40 / 4 Speed / '77 2F / Weber / Header / 4" Skyjacker / 35" BFG Mudders [ And a '71 going ground up] |

Well what a disappointing day.
Started off pretty good and went well until: The PO had mentioned that the windshield wipers did not work and I kinda shrugged it off. I never even noticed the truck was sans a windshield wiper switch! (Anybody have one for a 1972 40?) Well, I examined the wiring and found the mess above. One of the wiper motor wire was fried and I think it was fried by the now missing washer bottle. Fucking auto manufacturers need to come up with a better system then wrapping everything like they do. Would make our jobs in the world as "enthusiasts" a little easier when dealing with a 40 year old car! I started unwrapping the wiring to find how bad the damage was and discovered it was isolated to the wiper circuit. (Now to find some light blue wire - most of you would say this was going a bit far but afterall, I am of German decent and everything has to be just so or I will have trouble sleeping!) Unwrapping the wiring was as bad as it could have been as I did not want to remove the stuff since I have no bettery to tell me how I am doing (one the list for purchase this week is a small trickle charger that I can enrgize the fucker with.) Anywho, I did the best I could with the day. I got the newly powder coated vent cover on thanks to Sean and another Mudder who supplied the gasket gratis. Also got the newly rebuilt heater in. Nice. It is the thing to the right of the horrible wiring mess. Thanks again, Sean - best part of the truck! ![]() __________________ Hugh Heifer 9/71 FJ40 / 4 Speed / '77 2F / Weber / Header / 4" Skyjacker / 35" BFG Mudders [ And a '71 going ground up] |

Here is another pic of the heater:
More wire to nowhere: And some progress in the engine compartment: Got the dizzy I got from Barry A installed and wired (I am hoping not 180 out). I put the new plugs and wires in too. I have the Pertronix in the dizzy - Roger knows - and hope the ohms will work out with that Accel Super Coil. I am too tired to think anymore about it really. If not I will just order up a Pertronix Fire coil. I also have a stock coil Barry sent me so if I have trouble I could use that for a bit too probably. So that is it for the three day weekend. Thought I was close but the wiring kinda set me back. __________________ Hugh Heifer 9/71 FJ40 / 4 Speed / '77 2F / Weber / Header / 4" Skyjacker / 35" BFG Mudders [ And a '71 going ground up] |
