Cruise Moab 2005 - South and Central Calif convoy?

Well, I may or may not go myself, but in case this helps, I thought I should start also a thread for the SoCal and maybe Central Cal folks goin'...

If you plan on going up and would like to be part of a convoy, why don't you leave some info here on when you'd like to go, what route etc...

Us NorCal guys have rounded up all the cool SoCal guys...they're rolling with us.

When are you thinking about leaving? I know some are making a long week of it -- leaving a couple days earlier. I'm planning on leaving sometime Tuesday and arriving sometime Wednesday. Have you mapped out a route yet?

Not that I'm sure I can go, but I actually looked at a map today.
12 hours for me each way... $300 in gas
Guess I would go thru Vegas and yes if I'm gonna go all the way there, I'm staying for a bit, leaving early and coming back late...

Thumbs up

I am leaving on Tuesday the 3rd from Redlands, traveling up the 15, last year took me 13 hours(bad wind storm in Utah). If you are looking to convoy let me know. Retruning on Sunday the 8th, via the South to I-40, by my calculations last year, was a little over a hour faster, however I need fireworks from the indian tribe North of Vegas.

the site says that they aren't accepting anymore applications, if I were to just show up could I expect any openings?

One of the posts explains that while the event is full, you can run other trails ect...

yes, you can just show up and there are sometimes late cancellations, but there's also usually a waiting list.

I dont think 12hrs drive gonna cost you 300buks.I drove my 80 from CA to NYC
(3000Miles 3days/3night) spent $398.00 on gas each way and most of them i filled up with 91 premium.

actually, i think he's saying 300 round trip/12 hr each way.

i usually spend about $110 to go to grand junction and back (600 miles r.t. or about 8 hours r.t.).

outch! The 4runner is able to get to Grand Junction on a tank of gas, probably could make it to Moab but rather not tempt it when at a 1/4 tank.

Lets see, Mileage from my House to Slickrock is 364 Miles. I get 16-18 MPG on the highway (City is closer to 13-14). So 16 MPG @ $2.20 ($2.07 in Denver) gallon for 364 miles. Thats about 23 Gallons of Gas (Lexus has 25 Gal Tank). 23 Gallons * $2.20= $50.6 one way. Add round trip and gas at Moab $150 would be reasonable. Ige must be counting the stops For Jack Daniels on the way to keep her gased up!

If anyone from Southern California is going to Cruise Moab, I have a proposition to make: I have a "Land Cruiser" trailer that's currently being built by a buddy in Denver. If it's ready by Cruise Moab, getting it to Moab is easy. Would anyone be interested in towing/trailering it back to Southern California from Moab? If someone is willing and able, contact me so we can discuss compensation and logistics.

I'll be leaving The O.C. Tuesday, mid-morning for a relaxed pace. Gotta test some of the speed vs. MPG theories!

Ok, so I posted this on the yahoo 80s norcal and socal lists so pardon any repetition. I'm looking for someone that can transport 5 FZJ-80 oem wheels to Moab. I sold these to another ih8mud'er from Rising Sun club and he's got transport arranged from Moab to CO. So, anyone in So Cal got some space? Let me know as I can meet pretty much anywhere to drop them off. Of course it's really appreciated and will be compensated appropriately. I'm in Riverside (92506) so let me know. Thanks in advance for any help.
